Been raining since I got home around 4:00. I hate this weather.... :(

CLL: 28°F; windchill = 15°F. Still sleeting. Any water off the ground is freezing or frozen and impressively so. Watch bridges, overpasses!

Keep in mind that although there's wind and advection, the Dew Point isn't much lower than the temp. So, ice will more likely freeze than evaporate.

That second wind or second band continues to move east. Has been going as predicted.

Rush hour - hope bridges in NW Harris have been prepared. Houston Forecast Office was a little late to the party and folks didn't have much time to prepare. Fortunately, power problems in the area are minimum. DFW had power ourtages with inches of ice and snow.

Maybe just maybe some ice pellets in NW Galveston County this evening but that’s a stretch.

I did see the trucks out sanding/salting 59 around the Beltway (SW side) on my drive home. Glad to see them out, but it was a heavy downpour and I'm hoping some of it stuck instead of getting washed away to the drains. Stay warm everyone!

Looks like the HRRR is trending away from another band tonight. This may be all we wrote after this line moves out over the next few hours.

Elevated objects are just now starting to glaze over here. Still mostly wet, but not for long.

I guess since this is it for this version of Winter, wondering if there are any other possibilities of winter weather the next couple of weeks?

Isn't it amazing how much the season can flip, after the blowtorch of December.

That happened in December 1984, which was a warm December. January and February 1985 were cold. It was also La Nina.

That was probably the warmest December of my life. Had to keep cutting the grass once every two weeks and that’s just not supposed to happen in December. It seemed like almost every day was in the 80’s.

Wooden patio and truck covered in a thin coat of ice mixed with sleet. Just drizzle currently.

The reality is, people that have a novice passion for weather, especially Winter Weather, are typically emotion over logic followers of Weather. In 2022, most individuals lead with emotion over logic (see social media, polarization politically, etc) and this place can be a microcosm of that.

I saw, on this board, and S2K, many saying it would never get cold this winter and that it was over. That’s an emotion over logic response. I knew it would get cold, because it always will here at some point in the Winter. I put a conservative 14.5 freezing nights as my Over/Under. I will go over this weekend. I put highs at 40 and below at 4.5. I will be at 4 after this week and will break it before February is over.

Here’s the thing. Winter Weather in this state is very different from region to region. If you live south of I-10 and EXPECT Winter weather (ice/snow), your perception is divorced from reality. Quite frankly, the last 14-15 years here has been way above average for accumulating events. Houston is usually good for 1-2 accumulating events a DECADE. We had 5 in 2013-2014.
