I'd find that quite hard to believe with the shallow nature of the sub-freezing air. Possibly blowing drizzle mistaken as snow.hlewis wrote:saw a facebook update that it was snowing in columbus!

Just saw a transtar cam at Hwy 6 and Westpark showing what appears to be some flakes mixing in. Can we get any reports from that area?
Is that from radar or weather spotter observations?srainhoutx wrote:Freezing precip reported in Bellville now...

Latest RUC sounding has air temps well above 40 degrees at 850mb there. I'm seeing some strange reports. One coworker just reported what he thought was a clump of snow hit his windshield in the Hobby area. Temp is 48 degrees, though. The front hasn't even really reached that area.vbhoutex wrote:Just saw a transtar cam at Hwy 6 and Westpark showing what appears to be some flakes mixing in. Can we get any reports from that area?
My niece goes to Rice Consolidated in Altair, south of Columbus and she just text that they are closing early today. I'm waiting for a reply as to whether or not weather related. Just heard back and it's because of the weather.
Now at 32f and raining. Not seeing anything frozen yet. Can't believe it is still 46f at IAH.
My Weatherbug is showing frozen precip in the Columbus area.
290/Beltway 8 - light drizzle/30.

Iah must not be updating. I'm to the south and it is already in the mid 30's

we are at 32 and it's raining...
Moderate freezing rain/sleet here.
I am following yours and Srains post. Trying to determine what time to start sending folks home from the Galleria area to get back safely to the north side.Andrew wrote:vbhoutex wrote:Now at 32f and raining. Not seeing anything frozen yet. Can't believe it is still 46f at IAH.

I would speak with wxman. Temps are dropping fast but hopefully roads can dry fast enough that we won't have problemsjabcwb2 wrote:I am following yours and Srains post. ice on the cars in the parking lot where I have folks working, 290 @ Bedtka. Sending them home now.
[I am going to play "what if" they don't?
Then we have more accidents....with the trucks being sent out - the DOT must think there is a problem. I hope folks stay updated by the NWS and take precautions driving home. Once it freezes - its not going anywhere...

I'm showing 32.8 according to wunderground's station closest to me. ABSOLUTELY pouring here. This could get very ugly, very quickly. Whoever wxman57 is (if that's the correct screen name, he lives closest to me in Westbury. We're under a very heavy cell right now.
My buddy on the road is reporting flurries in Buffalo and Centerville.

That is exactly how I feel. I need some "backup" to show the boss. Have been scouring the internet trying to find info on whether tucks have been sent out, if there is icing on the overpasses, local school closures (none on the north side, for now) etc.
