Hello Everyone
It's 8/7 and we're headed into a VERY HOT weekend - maybe even into the start of next week.
What does HOT mean in Houston?
Heat index could rocket to 107 - is that why we're the Space City? :o

With this heat comes some dangers -
Please hydrate
Wear Loose clothes
Check the backseat of the car for babies  THIS IS A NO BRAINER.

Do NOT leave pets or anyone else for that matter in the car alone for any time being!

IF you need a place to chill - I'm sure Houston will have cooling centers open for you
You don't have to suffer. These are killer temps.

Ah, August - deep in the heart of Texas.

PLEASE be safe and weather aware.
Just because you're disabled, you don't have to be a victim

Well who is enjoying these lazy hazy daze of August?
I for one, am very much so.

Today, Sunday the NHC declared 94L off the coast of Africa
should arrive in the Lesser Antilles by next Saturday.
This is something to watch and be aware of.
THE SAL - dust that chokes off formations of canes seems to have moved
North of this storm..so it does have a chance of some development.

We are starting our deep in the heart of Hurricane season
or at least about too -

Lets stay aware.

I know the information below is buried somewhere in this forum
so I will repost again - doesn't hurt as we're about to face our
hurricane season here in Texas.

Its a great time to pull out the emergency plan and go over it with your family, friends
your support group that will help you evacuate if need be OR have the materials you need
if you choose to hunker down (Still hate that word!)

 Remember: YOU know your disability better than ANYONE else and know what YOU NEED to
prepare before/during/'after the storm - right?!

IF you are dependent upon electricity to LIVE by all means LEAVE the area
and get to a safer place - OR get a generator......breathing is good

IF you need transportation OUT of an evacuated area, please register with 211-
which is now called STEARS.
OR connect with family/friends who may want to take you with them.
Just connect with them to go over what/where you will go and what you will take with you.

here is a reminder to get your ready for whatever may come:

Hi friends
I hope you're making it thru these real dog daze of summer.
Please hydrate.

96L was declared today and this one is predicted to be a Caribbean cruiser
which means it has the potential to get into the Gulf of Mexico.
I know its a long way out 8-9 days, but I truly want you to keep a
weather eye on this little puppy.

It would be a GREAT TIME to pull out the plans and go over them
Tweak them if you must
Think about your support group
Even just talking about them with family and friends makes a lovely conversation.
Better now then when and if it comes to fruition - anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico
.

Stay cool. Be weather aware.
I'll be back to update you all.

This is a great weather 101 - taken from NHC (National Hurricane Center)

Overview

A tropical cyclone is a rotating, organized system of clouds and thunderstorms that originates over tropical or subtropical waters and has a closed low-level circulation. Tropical cyclones rotate counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere. They are classified as follows:

Tropical Depression: A tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 38 mph (33 knots) or less.
Tropical Storm: A tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph (34 to 63 knots).
Hurricane: A tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 74 mph (64 knots) or higher. In the western North Pacific, hurricanes are called typhoons; similar storms in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific Ocean are called cyclones.
Major Hurricane: A tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 111 mph (96 knots) or higher, corresponding to a Category 3, 4 or 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

THE National Hurricane Center has noticed a bit of a storm off our coast and placed us on their NHC map
We need to stay weather aware -
In any event - our coastal areas could see some heavy downpours the next could of days
Tuesday on.
PLEASE MONITOR the weather -especially those who live near the coast.

I know I posted this a time back somewhere on this forum, but will do so again

Update on 98L
Hurricane Hunters found a weak system that will eventually go into South Texas/North Mexico
However, coastal area should see some tropical rains the next couple of days.
We also need to keep an eye on perhaps a storm coming into the Yucatan/Bay of Campeche next week
99L??? Perhaps.

Please stay safe - monitor the wx and Happy Labor Day.
Sad to see summer go.... :D It's suppose to be a VERY cold winter

Hello Friends
Hope you are enjoying your Labor Day weekend.
If you live on the coast you've been rained on.
My area got 3.5 inches of the good stuff so far from our little tropical buddy 98L

NOW we have invest 99L which should cross the Yucatan today and get into the BOC Monday
Although only one model turns it into a hurricane in the GOM, the more reliable ones don't
they just keep it as an open wave with lots of rain. Our week may be similar to last week
Coastal areas win the rain prize.

We need to keep an eye on this one also to make sure.

Stay safe and weather aware

Happy Friday Friends

We got weather.

92L which is drenching S. Florida at the moment will be in the GOM soon
Will it develop into a storm? First, it has to survive the shear it will encounter.
However, most models do agree that will bring some good rains to the Texas
area - where? We have to stay alert on this.

It is still hurricane season. So this weekend, please be weather aware.

This rain we are receiving now on Friday afternoon is moisture from the GOM
A cold front is still expected sometimes tonight and that too will bring rain.

So, soggy Friday and Saturday - yes.
Its raining heavily in some areas and there is some flooding on streets.
Please be aware when and if you go out and about today and tonight.

Be safe

I'll be back to update this weekend.

Hope everyone got some good rain but stayed safe.
My home got 7 inch total so far!!!

After this weekend passes, Fall is coming and Texas may be able to say
We made it thru cane season!
(Cold front suppose to come in next week!!)
September 24th is *generally* the window where cane season closes in Texas.
*generally* - but the season itself goes on thru November 30th. right?!

Crossing my fingers though and smelling that pumpkin pie!

Well cooler temps area about to take their bow here Monday.
We may see strong to severe storms during the day tomorrow
Following that, NW winds gusting pretty heartily with the lows at night in the 50's

How many days until summer?!

Hello Friends
Hope you are enjoying this beautiful Fall
but tomorrow Wednesday we are expecting a cold front (BOO!)
with heavy rain, please monitor the weather

The City of Houston is monitoring the potential for heavy rain which could impact the greater Houston area this evening and Wednesday morning. Areas of heavy rain could cause street flooding in low-lying areas, especially along freeway access roads.

Rainfall totals may exceed 3 inches at some times, causing flooding on City streets and highways.
Houston Residents: Residents are asked to avoid creeks, bayous and low-lying areas, and plan ahead for the potential for heavy rain during tomorrow morning's commute. This includes planning additional time, and finding alternate routes around areas where high water normally occurs. Visit the Harris County Flood Education Mapping Tool (harriscountyfemt.org) to find areas that usually flood.
Residents are also asked to avoid driving through areas of high water.
Stalling your vehicle in high water is not only embarrassing and expensive, it can put your life in danger.
Please report any areas of high water or debris/trees on city streets to Houston 311 (311 or 713.837.0311)
Houston Businesses: Businesses should communicate with their employees and supervisors about the potential for heavy rain, and the impact it may have on their morning commute. They should also ensure that their assets and property that may be in low-lying areas, or may be exposed to conditions outdoors, are protected.
Just because you're disabled, you don't have to be a victim
Be Weather Aware & Prepared!
