I've seen those big graupel type flakes mixed with the rain occasionally, but now rain.

The snowfall in Houston would be the earliest recorded. I cannot find any snowfall record in November in Houston.

Unfortunately per NWC, Bush IAH didn't even get a trace. So they aren't counting this as the earliest snow event. December 4th, 2009 still stands. :(

Even snow in the Northern areas of Southeast Texas is unusual. I will have to look at records if it snowed previously in November in Huntsville.

A few hours ago, it was colder here than it was in DFW or Austin. It was 38 for a while @ my house with sleet/snow/rain while it was 50 out west in Austin. Now, it's up to 43 and colder in Beaumont where the precip still is. Those upper lows with cold pockets can do some amazing stuff.

If we use divisional weather data to see if there is a correlation between November and Winter (December to February) temperature, the value is r = 0.14, p = 0.13. The p-value is above 0.05, so there is no significance. However, it is a positive correlation, so warmer November is, the warmer Winter will be.

It is great to see the sun shining after 5 days of dreary cold and wet weather and even a little wintry mix to end the cold spell for those across our Region. I am grateful we did not see a major Ice Storm during this cold snap, but perhaps it did give us a taste of what we may see in a couple of weeks. Happy Thanksgiving Folks and enjoy the sun shine. A Hard Freeze Warning may be needed tonight across our Northern areas N of I-10 and areas to the SW and E away from the urban heat island as ideal radiational cooling an now winds as high pressure will be right over Texas set up. High clouds mat encroach the Coastal Counties protecting them from the freezing potential. Warmer weather is set to return over the weekend into early next week when temps will be back into the pleasant 70's.

Happy Thanksgiving to my KHOU Community Weather Forum friends! We're sitting at 31 degrees at the moment in southwest Travis County. I've got the smoker fired up and the turkey and brisket smoking away. Spent a lot of time already close to that firebox. ;)

Would like to wish everyone here a very Happy Thanksgiving. Feast until you can't eat anymore. Today will be a sweatpants kind of day, as I'm going to need the stretching.
After today, our stomachs will be at rest and our eyes on model watching for next week. Until then, cheers everyone! :D

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It is hard to believe for the first time since last Friday morning we may actually get to 60 F today. It will be interesting to see the departures for the month of November across the Region. It has been at least 10 years since I can remember it being actually chilly for the Thanksgiving Holiday period.

The month of November 2013 has definitely been on the cold side for much of the nation.
