Ahoy everyone - hope you are enjoying this weather - the rain is very welcomed!

As you are aware ( I assume?) we've had some wacky kind of weather
Tornadoes
Earthquakes
Blizzards
Mudslides
Nor'eastas

And we haven't even gotten to cane season yet - may I remind you we are less than 60 days away!

Below is something I want you to get involved with, if you can. Especially if you are person with a disability!
On April 7th there is a national "Prepareathon Day" They have heavy hitters on this talk and you can participate
AND YOU NEED TOO!
(Here comes the wag of the finger....) Amongst the illustrious wonderful guests that will enlighten us
protect us and educate us - there is no one that I can see or know of that represents the disability community.
Not even a stakeholder. HMMMMMM. I hope I'm wrong. It does happen once a year :D

While information that is given CAN HELP YOU, YOU NEED to have a voice! Below is the information and I'm hoping
you will get involved.

Hangout with America’s PrepareAthon! on April 7 at 1 pm
The White House is getting ready for the first America's PrepareAthon!, a national day of action that will take place April 30, 2014.

Join us this Monday, April 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET to discuss America’s PrepareAthon!, a community-based campaign to build a more secure and resilient nation by getting people to understand what disasters could happen in their communities and to take action to increase their preparedness. Actions include signing up for mobile alerts and warnings, holding a preparedness discussion to emphasize the steps people should take to be ready should a disaster occur, and conducting a drill so people are familiar with what to do beforehand.

Join us for a Google+ Hangout to hear from the head of FEMA, an award-winning meteorologist, and leaders from across the nation who share a passion for getting prepared. Paulette Aniskoff, White House’s Office of Public Engagement will moderate the live discussion.

Participants include:
•Craig Fugate, Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency
•Mike Bettes, The Weather Channel’s award-winning meteorologist
•Cameron Clayton, President of the Digital Division for The Weather Channel
•Nancy LeaMond, Executive Vice President for AARP’s State and National Group
•Jesse Salinas, Director of Alabama’s AARP
•Divya Saini, Block Preparedness Coordinator and founder of “Movers and Shakers”
•Chief Roy Acree, City of Smyrna, GA Fire Chief
•Boyce Wilson, Emergency Preparedness Planner for Heart of Texas Council of Governments

Join the conversation now by asking questions on Twitter using #PrepareAthon. And you can watch the Hangout live on Monday, April 7 at 1:00 p.m. by visiting the White House Google+ and YouTube pages.

The PrepareAthon! campaign is directed as part of President Obama’s Presidential Policy Directive 8: National Preparedness. On April 30, and throughout the spring, America’s PrepareAthon! activities will focus on preparing individuals, families, workplaces, K-12 schools, institutions of higher education, houses of worship, and community-based organizations for tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and wildfires.
•Be Smart: Know your hazards in your community. Download guides to learn how to prepare.
•Take Part: Plan activities and host an event locally on April 30.
•Prepare: Practice a drill or have a discussion about preparedness. Participation can include being a part of community emergency planning, hazard-specific drills, group discussions, and exercises.

Get involved by registering as a participant in America’s PrepareAthon! at www.ready.gov/prepare, and stay tuned into the discussion on Twitter by following @PrepareAthon.

Take care everyone!

Raise your hand if you are LOVING this warmer weather? ;)
Easter Sunday was exquisite!

So its April and we're about to drift into May.
I know you may have heard the "buzz" about a great big monster like EL NINO taking shape
this summer - El Nino's have a tendency to limit hurricanes. "Limit", not kill the season overall.

Some of our fiercest ones came under El Nino's.

Since we are getting closer to June 1st - perhaps NOW would be a good time to go over your hurricane plans.
NOW not when its in the GOM.

First thing you can do (NOW) is to register with STEAR (State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry)

When you register, it helps emergency planners and responders with the information they need
TO SAVE YOU LIFE. Remember, YOU are the one that knows YOUR DISABILITY best and what it takes
TO KEEP YOU SAFE.

Number to call: 211 or 877-541-7905
www.211texas.org

Who Should Register?
People with Disabilities
People who have limited mobility
People who have communication barriers
People who require additional medical assistance during an emergency event
People who require transportation assistance
People who require personal care assistance.

IF YOU ARE ON THIS LIST: CALL!

Have a wonderful SUNNY week!

HELLO FRIENDS
Just checking in as we end a most unusual July.
With this rare "cold" front coming in - temps in 80's
and storms - we end July on a nice "cool" wet note

We still have August and especially September for us here in Texas to keep watching the GOM.
Cape Verde season can be tricky.

Hope all is well and everyone is enjoying this summer.
Stay safe friends.
