January 2022
12Z Euro looks very similar to the 12Z Canadian model, both are now showing a strong ridge of high pressure sitting in the northern plains. With a storm system moving in the state from the west.Doesn't show a winter storm yet but gets close fwiw.Lets see if the trend continues over the next couple of days. And if the GFS switches back to a colder solution. edit: (The Ukmet also gets close to showing a winter storm)

I've always been told that light gray on those maps don't mean anything likes its less then an inch
Yes that is true. It’s basically just a trace but the fact that it’s showing at least that this far out bears watching. Lots of times when it snows here it doesn’t start popping up on the models till it’s within 2 days.Kingwood36 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 1:45 pm I've always been told that light gray on those maps don't mean anything likes its less then an inch

Also keep in mind those numbers are the average between all the ensemble members, the 12z Euro has some 1-2 inch isolated amounts in far western SE Texas
This is very encouraging to see this from the CPC:

The 18z EPS came in slightly more aggressive than the 12z.

Kingwood36 considering the GEFS ensemble is showing a winter storm set up, i have to agree here
18Z GFS did trend in the right direction though, the trough placement is much further west on this run due to the ridging being weaker in the west.Notice the much lower heights over us compared to the 12Z.
