Update from Jeff:
Lots of reports of sleet and snow incoming this morning across areas north of I-10.
I just drove through heavy sleet at US 290 and 610 enough to cover the ground so radar returns are in fact reaching the ground. Reports from Conroe and Monaville indicate snow is falling and starting to accumulate. Sub-cloud layer is saturating enough to from the top down to result in precipitation to reach the ground. Surface temperatures are at or below freezing from Katy to Cypress to Conroe and this is where precipitation is starting to accumulate on grassy surfaces and elevated structures. While sleet/snow is heavy enough to accumulate in Harris County, surface temperature is just above freezing and once the precipitation stops it will melt.
North of the freezing line, melting precipitation (snow/sleet) on contact with a slightly warmer road surface will result in some possible glazing of bridges and overpasses with a thin layer of ice.
Winter Weather Advisory just issued for Harris County until 1000am

I saw a few flakes leaving home in Alvin! What a surprise! Nothing hitting the ground, but still pretty to watch in the dark sky.

Here is a pic from The Woodlands area of my roof. You can see it starting to turn white now. Now if we can just get it to snow in the bucket at IAH...lol
Surprise! A very nice surprise for me. I guess I'll try to get on the road early. Sounds like my trip from Porter to Conroe will be pretty ( pretty interesting )
No rain, no rainbows.
Had some fairly heavy sleet about 20 minutes ago in green way plaza.
I have to chuckle on the sudden Winter Weather Advisory.

Just drove into work from SW Houston along the south loop then down I-45. Could see an occasional white streak in my headlights. Looks like small snow grains, which are partially-melted snowflakes. They appear to be falling from the mid-level cloud deck, passing through the warm nose and partially melting, then reaching a freezing layer just above the ground and re-freezing before finally reaching the ground as little balls of ice with a lower density than sleet. Not quite graupel.

I would keep an eye on a potent system expected to trek across Texas next Tuesday and Wednesday. This upper air feature appears to have a lot of energy associated with it and as of today, the guidance is trending colder. There is also a lot more QPF associated with this storm system. so something to monitor over the weekend. Tonight may offer another surprise across Central and N Central Texas as the mean trough passes our Region. We will see.

Wow where did all this come from? Did the models bust this too? Here at work see alot of sleet snow on tops of buildings here in downtown. I think the models need to be fixed
