My wife called and said the line hit with a little wind and nothing but sprinkles and very light rain. She just texted right now....still very light rain, kind of a sprinkle. Unreal.
Heavy wind and rain right now in Richmond. Numerous Tree limbs down.

Absolutely pouring up here. Winds gusting in the low 30's.

Clouds this afternoon have kept stability down this afternoon enough to where this will be a nice downpour instead of a big severe day

Note that the Univ. of Houston launched a radiosonde at 18Z today. Results from the launch indicate much drier air aloft than the GFS was forecasting. And the airmass is more stable than models indicated.Mr. T wrote:Clouds this afternoon have kept stability down this afternoon enough to where this will be a nice downpour instead of a big severe day

Experts, I hate to make myself look so stupid but why is it not raining harder? I am at 290/Hollister area and looking out the window it is not raining as hard as the radar indicates, we are getting a light rain at best.

That is EXACTLY what is going on over here at Rayford/Sawdust in the Spring area. Radar shows reds/oranges over me and it's nothing but a very light rain. My wife texted me again just a bit ago and still nothing but a very light rain near the Lake Conroe Dam area. The leading edge came through an hour ago up that way...no hard rain at all.
Same thing here at Bellaire and the West Loop. Dark Reds passed over according to the radar, but the rain was mostly just light rain. Strange indeed.

So much for the strong gusty winds and hail associated with these thunderstorms, huh?

wxman mentioned drier air aloft. Maybe evaporation?

HGX indicated the cap was a bit stronger in the mid day aviation update. It appears, that,is the case as wxman57 mentioned with the U of H sounding. Those of us lucky enough to get heavier rainfall are grateful. Oh, and the power is still out at my location.

We need more soundings around here. Anyways I am getting a good amount of rain.
