Conroe Regional sits in a bowl so it’s a bit of an outlier. Just a few miles away, near Conroe HS, there are still mature Mexican Fan Palms that survived the 2021 snowmageddon - when you have areas inside Beltway 8 that got completely torched. Microclimates are real and that’s something that you really appreciate in places like Hawaii, where microclimates are everywhere.
I wonder if we’ll start to see any flurries south of the lakes? It’s getting pretty dry already.

7pm Temp Check vs NWS Forecast Low:
Dallas: 14°/10° … big bust potential
Austin: 21°/15° … big bust potential
San Antonio: 26°/18° … big bust potential
Houston: 29°/16° … potential bust
Still have 12 hours of cooling ahead
Temperatures are far outpacing any model and we’re already closing in on the forecast low tonight in many areas and it’s only 7pm. IAH is the exception. They’re gonna have to cool quicker than they are to match the forecast low of 16°. They’ll likely lose 2-3 degrees per hour for a few more hours and then cool at the standard 1 degree per hour from then on. I’m still betting IAH gets below 15°F. It’ll be close, especially with a clearing sky and very strong CAA. Temperatures upstream are very cold so that gives me hope.

Weather app now shows 16 here. NWS says 13 (probably right)…
26 here now.
26 here now.

TWC app has me down for 18 tomorrow morning.

19°F now. Well ahead of schedule and just about the break through GFS' paper thin prediction.
Blake, my 13°F prediction may be too high. Single digits could be a possibility under clear skies.

A windchill of 4°F here. We're headed to negative territory on wind chill, a first for me here. In Feb 2021 the winds had died down with snow/albedo when we had the 5°F and 9°F nights.
TG the electricity and heat are doing fine so far. Knock on wood.
The freezing line is headed toward Corpus. There's a pool of really cold air west of HOU heading south.

The wind is the Achilles’ heel. Normally wind that strong would stifle a significant drop in temps but in this case, it is blowing in frigid Siberian air. The temps in North Texas are already closing in on single digits so that works in our favor for extreme cold.
Now 30 in Beaumont

Right. Everyone in Oklahoma is in single digits or below. That source air is courtesy of the Gulag!TexasMetBlake wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 8:25 pmThe wind is the Achilles’ heel. 18°F here. Every time I refresh Wundermap, the temp is lower.

The FROPA has reached the RGV. This map is one for the ages.

ACT has held at 15 now for the last 3 hours. The temperature fall is beginning to slow a bit in central and north Texas. Should still see a decent drop in the Houston area for the next few hours. Dewpoints are -4 at DFW, 2 at ACT, 14 at IAH, and 4 in AUS. So still plenty of room to fall another 5 or 6 degrees.
