This wind in CoCo is something fierce the last two days.
Team #NeverSummer
We're doing the 25°F drop the old fashioned way this weekend - driving up to Minnesota!
I don't want to say today looks like the hottest day yet this summer...but it looks like the hottest day of the summer. Probably 107-108°F. I just looked at my neighbor's yard - he's been out. Grass and trees are dying. The ground is cracking. The wind whistling through the branches of his elms have a brittle sound. Not good.
CLL just smashed the old record of consecutive days of ≥100°F now at 31...with no end in the sensible forecast sight.
Where is this coming from, just winds around the high?MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 12:54 pm This wind in CoCo is something fierce the last two days.

Yes, we are wedged between two high pressure systems for now, with a tight gradient pushing winds in between. Usually this would increase our chances for rain but there’s just nothing there.Rip76 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 1:41 pmWhere is this coming from, just winds around the high?MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 12:54 pm This wind in CoCo is something fierce the last two days.
In September we need to look out for a similar pattern. It may be a blessing (tropical wave or low end TS) or a curse (bombcane over 90-92 F waters).
The wind is streaming our way SW18 G28 in CLLRip76 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 1:41 pmWhere is this coming from, just winds around the high?MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 12:54 pm This wind in CoCo is something fierce the last two days.
The wind will probably cool down the waters some.

Cpv17 even if it does, it wont even put a dent in slowing the gulf from warming, pretty much means nothing at this point
Yeah. It’ll probably just cool our part of the Gulf off a small bit but rest of the Gulf will continue to rise. I’ve noticed that the Texas coastline (with the exception of the upper Texas coast) is actually the only spot of the Gulf that’s at or slightly below average.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 4:41 pm Cpv17 even if it does, it wont even put a dent in slowing the gulf from warming, pretty much means nothing at this point
Our current soil temperature is 121°F. I might as well install astroturf.
Just have to say what’s happening in Lahaina and other parts of Maui is a tragedy. Lahaina is our little haven away from it all. It’s been a tough day.

Very massive and terrible fire, saw some images, really really bad, several dead,
Virtually the entire town was completely engulfed by a wildfire. Nothing left. The entire historical district and Front Street is gone. It happened so fast people fled into the Pacific, then the marina and the boats went ablaze and all the fuel floating on the water created an inferno on the ocean too. It’s one of the worst disasters I’ve ever seen and it happened to a place I dearly love
Lots of history there. There was a map store with one of the largest private map collections in the world. The owner had a drawer full of original maps from Florida from the 1800’s. I was going to order some prints from her - it’s all gone.

107°F here, but wow - paradise on fire.
I’ve never heard of Hawaii having wildfires. I thought they had a lot of rain there and never had to worry about droughts.
Rain shadows. The west side of the big island is pretty arid. The east side is a tropical to alpine jungle, rising up the volcanic slope.
Lahaina, on the west coast of Maui only received 14.63 in of rain a year.
Hana on the east coast, seeing the brunt of the easterlies gets 72 inches of precip a year.

Never got below 84 overnight. Almost 90 on my outdoor weather gauge at 745 AM. Have cracks all over my yard that are 3-4 inches across. Complete misery.
