Cat 2 now with 100mph Winds

wow, look at that pressure drop, 950 mb now.. I expect a major hurricane before landfall.

I know Snowman. Nothing more than a breezy off and on drizzle for my lawn as well. Coastal counties faired much better rain fall wise.

THE COASTLINE WEST OF 61ST STREET. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED A WATERSPOUT
WITH THIS STORM. IT IS MOVING WEST NORTHWEST AT 15 MPH.

Alex continues to strengthen has he approaches the coast. The latest radar data shows that he might have slowed down a bit recently. You can see additional strong thunderstorm activity developing right around the eye on the latest visible sat loops which would point toward some higher wind speeds right before he moves inland in the next few hours.

Maybe the scariest part of this for us in the Houston area is just how strong a storm this has become in JUNE when Hurricanes are so uncommon. The gulf is ripe for the picking

Alex is quite an impressive hurricane. It looks like a major hurricane to me. 950 mb with 100 mph winds is not unheard of. Remember Ike? It had 944 mb and 100 mph winds. Alex and Ike were large.

Alex likely has unusually low pressure due to developing in the eastern part of the North American Monsoon.

Wilma formed from a monsoonal trough, which would explain the lower than normal pressure it had.

I have seen radar and satellite images of Alex and it looks better than some major hurricanes I have seen. This is really crazy! Keep in mind, recon is only sampling the hurricane. It would not surprise me if Alex is stronger.
