Looking at the 12km NAM and the 00z GFS, I find it interesting that they are "warm" showing lows in the upper teens for central and southeast Texas while the 00z GEM and ICON models are single digits and teens. Seeing the NAM more in line with the GFS kind of raises an eyebrow for me. Maybe I'm too cold on my temps.

We're nearly within the window to where we can start watching in real time the temperatures in Denver, Amarillo, OKC , and Dallas to see what kind of airmass we're dealing with. Still 3 days out so lets see what happens.

Of note, Feb 2021 was the first time HGX had ever issued a Wind Chill Warning and now, not even two years later, they are likely to do it again!

Bitterly cold air will move in Thursday afternoon. A hard freeze along with dangerously cold wind chills has prompted us to designate Thursday and Friday ABC13 Weather Alert Days. Stay tuned!

Kinda nervous. Always leased apts. first time renting townhouse. Going to cover outdoor faucet tomorrow with styrofoam cover a friend bought me. Not nervous about cold. Don’t want any damage.

We were in the NC mountains in late 1983 skiing. It was below 0°F for a couple of nights, but we escaped any pipes bursting in the rental. That didn't stop us from skiing, and the snow was less icy.

They are more prepared to deal with cold weather. I have skiied in mountainous areas, in the Western US.

Yes and no. Houses in the NC mountains are built on foundations, so all the pipes underneath the house in the crawlspace have to be insulated. Foundations have built in warming - mother Earth. water lines and pipes in attics have to be insulated or dripped. When the temp was below 0°F, we definitely dripped water.

If the argument is that many houses in Texas are not sufficiently or are sloppily insulated, then I agree! That applies to summer energy costs big time as wel... I'm looking to see if we can blow or place more insulation in our western walls.

I have a plan to keep the garage and attic above freezing. We did well in Feb. 2021. Fingers crossed!

In the 2021 event we opened the attic stairwell, allowing the warmer house air to vent up into the attic space. The house was a bit cooler than we would've liked yet the attic temps stayed in the upper 40's to low 50's. I'll take that trade to save pipes and $$$.

In 2021, we had friends over in Austin who took every standard precaution but the pipes still froze under their kitchen island.

Not ALL southeast texas. Lol. Beaumont not yet… but our NWS comes from Lake Charles. Im sure it will be any minute for the remaining of setx.
