THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
A SMALL PART OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS AND THE MIDDLE TX COAST
COASTAL WATERS
EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY MORNING FROM 210 AM UNTIL 700 AM CST.
HAIL TO 1 INCH IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 35
STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 45 MILES WEST
SOUTHWEST OF ALICE TEXAS TO 65 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF CORPUS
CHRISTI TEXAS. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE
ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU4).
REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
DISCUSSION...AN ORGANIZED QLCS WILL MOVE EWD/ENEWD ACROSS S TX TO
THE MIDDLE TX COAST IN ADVANCE OF AN EJECTING MIDLEVEL TROUGH AND
ASSOCIATED SURFACE LOW. THE MAIN SEVERE THREAT CORRIDOR WILL BE
ALONG THE WARM FRONT/INSTABILITY GRADIENT WHERE NEAR SURFACE-BASED
INSTABILITY WILL COINCIDE WITH STRONG VERTICAL SHEAR. DAMAGING
WINDS WITH BOWING SEGMENTS SHOULD BE THE MAIN THREAT...THOUGH AN
ISOLATED TORNADO CANNOT BE RULED OUT WHERE STORMS INTERACT WITH THE
WARM FRONT...WHICH WILL MOVE CLOSE TO CRP BEFORE THE CONVECTION
REACHES THE COAST AROUND 11Z.
This is what frustrates me sometimes. People get overexcited and anticipate a record breaking storm system 7-10 days out but when things calm down and it doesn't look record breaking they don't pay attention anymore and that is when people get hurt. Training and possible severe weather will still be a problem with this weather. Lets hope people stay safe. Also a few models show a little disturbance next week that could cause a surprise or two.

Same here. I actually never was able to take a break. I am shamefully addicted, lol! But trust me when i say, with three NOAA All Hazards radios always on, an iPhone with weather alarms...and somebody who is always monitoring the SPC, there is no way I wouldn't have known. In fact, i'm in charge of waking everyone else in the house up in the event of a Tornado Warning...so I have to be on top of it. Glad I made no assumptions, as I had mentioned, "I will neither say yes nor no until I see something happen...because we just don't know."Andrew wrote:wxman666 wrote:Well just as I leave things get interesting, lol. I am the same way. You should see me during hurricane season. I go insane from the lack of sleep. It is part of the fun though. I could prob do weather stuff just about 24/7. I usually have like 8 web pages up a bunch of models and graphs and yea it gets complicated haha.wxman666 wrote:Same here. I actually never was able to take a break. I am shamefully addicted, lol! Exactly. People may call us crazy but there's no greater thrill IMO than a good, intense storm or winter event. My three favorite types of weather...my top fav has always been tornadoes and severe thunderstorms...hurricanes follows that since that comes in the same package...winter wx comes in third. I will not forget the day that Hermine's outer bands hit us, and I saw two funnel clouds outside my backyard window. First time I had ever gotten to witness that...and I've been waiting a very long time to see a twister.

Yea Hurricanes are Number one for me. I remember during Ike I had some rotation around my neighborhood. You could tell by the damages to the trees and the high winds we were getting. It was defiantly a moment I will never forget.
Are you going to go or have been chasing sometime in your life?

I understand. It irritates me that things are so overly downplayed down here. When meteorologists say there's nothing to worry about...when there is something really big to worry about...people get caught off guard. I've never been one to downplay something, which is why I continue to tell my friends (they rely on my weather forecasts, lol) that while it's not immediately likely...I certainly will not rule anything out until we're certain what will happen.mwbwhorton wrote:your not alone 666 i have a weather jones too especially when its bad like now tell ya we may get one heck of a winter event up here in north louisiana low looks tougher than forecast....

It is a strong desire of mine. I will probably take one of HGX's Skywarn classes whenever I can (which I think is around the corner).Andrew wrote:wxman666 wrote:Exactly. I think ya'll hav a tornado warning down there somewhere ...yikes...
Ike was a beast! I was in Sugar Land at the time. That was only the second time I had truly been scared in a storm. The first time was in one of our tornado outbreaks. But as I've grown older...I find myself standing outside during a severe thunderstorm watching it (in a safe area).Andrew wrote:wxman666 wrote:Exactly. However, wxman666 you have kept this place flowing after everyone jumped off the bandwagon, glad to have you on board

On topic, looks as if the full mass of the low has held off a bit. At least for us southerners here near the coast. Might be another 2-3 hours, but it will get here, and we all should will wake up to quite the mess. Lets keep this topic flowing with all the reports of severe weather along with totals for tomorrows storm. Maybe, just maybe, someone can report something wintry
