PS - thanks to all for the kind comments last week. I'm not going anywhere, but felt the need to vent. I do have those days, sometimes. Lack of rain, years at a time, will do that to a gardener.
Glad to see you have backed away from the edge of the cliff . Looks like rain chances could return later in the week but that looks best for coastal areas. Not too confident in those chances but at least chances exist.

I recall 1973 offered a strange and prolonged winter with the biggest snow I've seen area wide in Houston. Then early June brought a flood that dropped 10-15 inches in Houston ( First Astrodome Astros game cancelled and the Medical Center flooded ) and just over 16 inches in Coldsprings. Droughts always tend to end in a flood around Texas. Be careful what you wish for when El Nino may be forming...

There was a flood in June 1973. The Medical Center flood and Astrodome flood out occurred in June 1976, not 1973. June 1973 flood was spanned out over a few days.
1973 went from El Nino to La Nina. 1973 is one of the wettest years. Angleton saw over 100 inches of rain that year. 1976 went from La Nina to El Nino. 1973-1974 is one of the strongest La Nina recorded.
I want to put Zoloft in Mother Nature's Easter Basket.
I am SO OVER this cold weather.
Bring 90's, or even 100's at this point. I don't care
I need to thaw.

^^ This x 100. This cold crap is horrible. I am hoping this summer is actually going to be hot. So far, looks like we will have the never ending winter.

Luckily models are hinting at a more "zonal" pattern for the rest of the week. Looks like we could have a couple of shortwave disturbances travel west across the Sub tropical Jet, but things definitely look warmer. After that there are some hints that a more progressive pattern could take shape, but fortunately we are getting closer and closer to May which means that these long-wave troughs are going to have a harder and harder time extending so far south.

If history has anything to say, there have been big rainfall events in late April into May. Think even last year to look no further. 1989, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2007, or 2009.

Once it gets hot, we will be begging for cold weather again.

A wide range of morning temps with excellent radiational cooling. 5AM temps: 41F at IAH, 34F at Conroe, 49F at Sugarland, 39F at Angleton, 48F at Hou, and 56F at Galveston. Low 70s with sunny skies will make for a perfect weather day across SE TX. A few showers possible tomorrow followed a partly cloudy and 80F Good Friday.

Active short wave moving into the area this morning. Recent radar trends suggest showers and even a few thunderstorms developing west of I-45 as strong lift approaches from the west and just enough moisture has returned overnight. Expect activity to peak in the next few hours and then begin to weaken and most eastward this afternoon. Models have not handled this system very well, so using radar trends in the short term seems the most appropriate action.
As suspected the outlook for the weekend has been drier and drier with the next system taking more of a northerly track leaving much of SE TX capped. Could still see a few showers moving northward off the Gulf under the capping inversion, but it does not look like significant rainfall will affect SE TX Friday through at least Sunday afternoon. Rain chances may increase slightly Sunday evening into early Monday as another cool front pushes toward the region, but even that is looking questionable at the moment. Temperatures will be below normal again today and near normal with lows in the 60’s and highs near 80 through the weekend.

Thanks for posting this TexasPirate! Love it!!
In my opinion, I would be really spoiled if all of our Texas winters would be like the early springs that we have had so far in 2014. Spoiled yes-but it would be my kind of winter!
BlueJay wrote:Srain, will we have a lovely weekend or will we need jacket and an umbrella?
Warmer weather appears likely as we push 80 for high temperatures Saturday into Sunday. Late Sunday may offer a slight chance of streamer showers into Tuesday before a weak front nears the Coast. It looks like a nice and warm Easter Weekend is ahead for those outdoor activities.
