I'm kinda amazed at how steadily the snow is still coming down... On radar the precip moved out a long time ago.. kinda thought it would shut off when that back edge got here but it's still snowing

We’ve got a bigger problem. ERCOT said 15 minutes to an hour for rolling blackouts, but Center Point is apparently saying that due to excessive demand they’re having to cut power during rolling blackouts for longer than expected. Many including me have been out for hours so they owe a bit more of an explanation as to how long we’ll be out for and how frequently they’ll be shutting off. Apparently 12,000 megawatts of power is offline due to frozen wind turbines. Those who want us completely off reliable natural gas should take a cue and learn an important lesson in logic and reason from this event.

More than half of America is an emotion over logic crowd so don’t hold your breath.

TBF, wind turbines in the Dakotas don’t go offline. This is a walk in the park for those in Fargo or Minneapolis. They’re laughing at uss and how we’ll need Federal assistance for snow and cold. I had to explain last night to my post-doc from Europe that he did not have to show up for work. In Chicago this is just another Monday. Texans are I’ll prepared for real winter weather.

Honestly I think we dodged a bullet as far as freezing rain on power lines. Roads are covered in ice under the snow but as far as ice one trees and power lines, I see very little here in Beaumont. Entergy sent a text now for us that rolling blackouts will begin today. No outage duration. Thats scary. Power keeps flickering for past several hours. Im sure they are switching over to different grids or something. Im not a power guy. Lol. But we will start having blackouts here too.

well said, Dr - it reached -38 in the land of my birth last night & all is well there (over -50 in the last week or so) They could improve building codes here, it would help if water lines run down an uninsulated, exterior wall are required to be insulated, etc... improved insulation would help when power use surges in summer as well

Noticing some minor, but certainly noticeable northwest-southeast oriented snow bands... Lakes Conroe and Houston may explain the eastern-two.

Not to jump ahead, but overnight trended towards starting (at least) our next storm system as freezing rain across a large portion of the area. We'll have to see if models continue to trend colder with a longer duration of freezing rain Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Looks like the NAM may have been closest to reality across SE Texas for the overnight storm. Today into the 12Z runs tomorrow should provide some ground truth to the possibilities for storm #2.

I would be in line with the lake conroe band but just off to its nnw and I am still getting a steady light snow here
