Nothing is going to get busy in here until then

I’m down to 35 degrees
That’s great. Sitting here at 43 in middle of urban heat core in Houston :(. Lots of time left though.

Snow can fall on surface above freezing.

Love seeing the photo from the same perspective too. The rooftops are definitely getting whiter!

We live on Tarkington Prairie. My older sister was a year old when this happened so lots of pictures of the family playing out in it in her baby book. My parents said it was the most amazing thing they’ve ever seen.

As the precipitation picks up later today that's when the air column cools enough for snow.As the cold air aloft gets pulled down to the surface.

Looks like 6PM-12AM will be the crucial time period for anyone in Harris County. At that point, the coastal low will be directly south of here, and we will start to see a reduction in warm air advection (WAA) between 800-700mb.

Not much right now but should later this afternoon. Radar shows mostly rain below 8k feet over the immediate region.

Latest from Jeff:

Rain is transitioning to heavy snow generally along an north of a line from NW of Huntsville to South College Station to Bastrop. Social media and public reports indicate accumulations are occurring under the heavier snow bands and TXDOT has reported slush and ice starting to form on roadways in Brazos, Burleson, Madison, Bastrop, Lee, and Houston Counties. Travel conditions will continue to worsen over the winter storm warning area this afternoon and travel is now strongly discouraged.

Rain/snow line will continue to progress SE this afternoon and evening and a transition to all snow is likely along and north of a line from Sealy to Cypress to Porter. In fact, some of the more recent guidance is suggesting snow down toward I-10 is possible in Harris County this evening…but that is of lower confidence. Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing over all of Harris County and any snow that falls may accumulate for a period on rooftops and vehicles and grassy surface, but roadways and bridges should be ok.

All the posts out of there are incredible with more to come. They could be on the more aggressive side of totals that some of the mesoscale models indicated.
