HGX believes confidence growing that the Montgomery/NE Harris Counties activity will build SW through the Metro Area into Ft Bend County. Rainfall rates of 3 to 5 inches per hour are possible.

Keeping an eye to the SW, right along 59, for another band setting up. Similar to what jasons said, I'm concerned about tornados spinning up in this type of atmosphere.

If you can leave, I would. The shorts term guidance is not too promising this stuff moves out before the afternoon rush.

To me it looks like the heaviest rain may begin to develop over Metro Houston within the next couple of hours. The band will slowly drift SE into Ft Bend, Southern/Central/SE Harris in the early afternoon. The damage will be done by 4 PM as those potential heavy rainfall rates could be impacting area roadways. Just my hunch... ;)

Update from Jeff:

Life threatening flash flood event is underway from Conroe to Porter to Winnie

8.36 inches of rainfall has fallen in the last 1.5 hours at Caney Creek and FM 2090 with 2 day storm totals now approaching 20-22 inches over SE Montgomery County and 15-20 inches over NE Harris County. Widespread deep flooding is in progress. Intense rainfall rates of 3-5 inches per hour is moving into the Kingwood, Humble, Huffman, and Crosby areas. This will result in rapid onset flash flooding in urban areas.

It appears this line will be moving into the Spring, Sheldon, Highlands, and Baytown areas over the next hour…flash flooding is likely along with rises on the West Fork of the San Jacinto River, Gum Gully, Carpenters Bayou

Just got home in Orange from work in Beaumont. Glad I left when I did. Had to rescue my father in law again, just like Harvey. He will more than likely flood again. He is in Mauriceville. 85 years old and after going through Harvey with no flood insurance I hope this isnt too much for him. Fortunately he has flood insurance this time. Hope this winds down in the next 6 hours or so.

Is the rain over Humble/Kingwood/Atascocita expected to keep moving throughout the morning? It’s coming down pretty hard now. I hope we don’t see this for hours on end.

Those inflow rates (25 to 40 knots), the dewpoints down around the coast (80 degrees) and the serious moisture (2.0 to 2.2 PWATS) in the area will be a headache all day long. Folks, please stay tuned here, HGX and your local outlets for information.
