18Z GFS does forecast changeover to snow in Waco should be occurring now. Checked IAH and it forecasts temps aloft to drop below freezing just as precip ends between 3am-6am tomorrow. Typical of down here. Cold air flows in aloft after the low passes, but moisture shuts off then, too. I won't rule out a stray snowflake between midnight and 6am, but you'd better look fast because once the flakes hit the ground they'll melt.

if profiles are cold enough to supprt a rain/snow mix as precip shuts off would soundings be able to support a rain/sleet mix a little sooner?

Winds are turning to the north, and as that occurs, the surge of colder temps begins... It is now 33 degrees in Waco and snowing. The cold air will continue surging southward and the Bryan/CLL area will change to snow later on tonight
Im sitting at 34 at 6 pm, just makes me wonder, just 2 degrees to drop for ice to start forming on power lines, trees( WHATS LEFT OF MY TREES), Is it me are or really close

Still more snow to come for Dallas. They'll get that 0.2" needed to break the February record.

Uh ... not quite. There are some reports of a rain/sleet/snow mush falling in north Austin. I'm in SW Austin and its only cold rain right now.sleetstorm wrote:Snow is currently falling in Austin right now if anyone cares.
But yes we had some very bright radar returns just move through the metro area. Radar thinning out quickly to our west. That's probably the end of it.
Top 5 snowiest winter seasons in Dallas:
17.6" 1977-1978
15.3" 1963-1964
13.5" 1923-1924
10.5" 2009-2010 (so far)
10.4" 1976-1977
These are the only five winter seasons that (officially) Dallas has recieved 10" of snow in a season. Records begin in 1898.
Here's a fun fact to share with the kids:
During the 1990s, DFW officially recorded 3.9" of snow for the entire decade. The 2000s were more generous, with 14" of snow recorded through the 2008-2009 season.

So can I start getting really excited now for Bryan TX snow?

I remember that 1978 snow. Was in Tyler visiting Grandpa in hospital when it started. Took us forever to get back to Marshall as the visibility was so bad and I-20 was in poor shape. Our house was out in the boonies and we had to make our own track through the snow to get home. Next day was pretty exciting for us kids.Mr. T wrote:Top 5 snowiest winter seasons in Dallas:

Seattle and Portland had their warmest January's on record by far, beating the previous records by a good degree or two.Andrew wrote:So I will post the same thing that someone else posted on Storm2k:
