For those wondering if the Flood Threat still remains, the answer is yes. Looking over the guidance today, it does appear that tomorrow into at least Saturday will be active and the heavy rainfall threat continues. A general 5 to 8 inches of rainfall still looks possible with isolated higher amounts likely. I am focusing on Friday afternoon into Saturday as a series of low pressure waves ride up a stalled boundary into our SE Texas Region from the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Rainfall rates as we saw yesterday could be near 4+ inches per hour in heavier storms. Training of thunderstorms may also be possible.

Today looks to be a dud across most of southeast TX. Storms stabilized the atmosphere yesterday too much for anything to get going today.

the Tweet w/video from NWS Tampa Bay was about our weather in TX yesterday, but incredibly interesting link on Supercell Structure and Dynamics from NWS Louisville, KY

Keeping radar skills sharp by analyzing current storms in #TX, and saw a classic example of a "Splitting Supercell", where a storm updraft splits into 2 distinct storm updrafts. Learn more about supercell updrafts at the NWS page below. #flwx #txwx @NWSAMA https://www.weather.gov/lmk/supercell/dynamics

Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion 0211
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
400 PM EDT Wed May 08 2019

Areas affected...Eastern TX & Western LA

Concerning...Heavy rainfall...Flash flooding possible

Valid 081959Z - 090159Z

Summary...A progressive band of showers and thunderstorms is
expected to produce hourly totals to 2" with local amounts to 4"
over the next several hours.

Discussion...Radar imagery shows a progressive band of showers and
thunderstorms, with embedded mesocyclones, moving across eastern
TX and the ArkLaTex. The system has a pronounced cold pool in its
wake which is likely the driving force behind its forward
propagation. Precipitable water values of 1.5-2" lie across the
area per GPS data. Convergent inflow at 850 hPa is out of the
southwest at 35-45 kts per VAD wind profiles. Effective bulk
shear of 40-50 knots and fairly unidirectional flow with height
has helped the band organize into a quasi-linear system. Embedded
mesocyclones have elevated hourly rain totals to 1.5-2" per radar
estimates, which could be too low in such a moist environment. ML
CAPE values in advance of the line are hefty, with 3000+ J/kg
values right over Houston.

The mesoscale guidance is proving that the struggle is real today,
with only 17z HRRR/RAP runs and the 12z ARW having any concept of
what is ongoing. Some of the guidance weakens this band shortly,
but with the degree of convergent inflow, moisture, and
instability available, the presence of a deep layer cyclone to the
north-northwest, the line moving into an area of higher dew points
which could broaden the band of thunderstorms, a cold pool with
temperatures in the low 60s, a quick dissipation of the band seems
unlikely. With a lagging instability pool across south-central
TX, and the deep layer cyclone still to the north-northwest, there
is concern that the southwest flank of the convective line could
hold up and lead to a more serious threat at some point. The 12z
ARW hints at this idea though it might be too far west with where
this threat might materialize. For the time being, expect hourly
rain totals to 2" with local amounts to 4" being most probable.
Areas in and near Houston received 3-14" of rain on Tuesday --
this area is the most sensitive to additional heavy rainfall.
Should the rainfall situation worsen more than expected across
portions of Southeast TX, a new discussion would be warranted.

Bit early to be making such calls. This line very well may progress ESE into Gulf inflow. It’s just getting started...

I definitely wouldn't say that. Lots of little discrete cells starting to pop up in the southern viewing area
