BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED
Flash Flood Warning
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
804 PM CDT Tue May 7 2019

The National Weather Service in League City has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Central Fort Bend County in southeastern Texas...

* Until 1115 PM CDT.

* At 757 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area.
Rainfall of 6 to 15 inches of rain have fallen. More storms are
developing and spreading across this hard hit area. Rainfall rates
of 2 to 3.5 inches per hour are moving across the warned area.
Additional storms could develop later this evening and move back
over this same area again. Numerous roads are flooded and travel
should be avoided across the warned area. Do not go near storm
drains!

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sugar Land, Missouri City, Rosenberg, Stafford, Richmond, Town
West, First Colony, Pecan Grove, Mission Bend, Meadows Place,
Needville, Pleak, Fairchilds, Beasley, Kendleton, Thompsons,
Greatwood, New Territory, Fifth Street and Cumings.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

I guess not really surprising given the current situation, but probably not what any meteorologist thought would be issued today as the FFW was expected later this week. Nonetheless, Flash Flood Watch for Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria and Wharton counties. Please stay off the roads if you are in a Flood Warning. This is becoming a dangerous situation with multiple high water rescues going on.

* A nearly stationary weak boundary is focusing training showers
and thunderstorms across the watch area. Very heavy rainfall is
is occurring in a short time period which can cause flooding of
streets, creeks and bayous. With the loss of daytime heating,
precipitation should begin to gradually weaken as we head into
the overnight hours.

to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

Just when I think it is letting up, we get another round! Draining the pool and watching our Koi pond as I cannot turn the valve to drain. I pulled up the decorative rock we had around the garden that sits around the pool and started digging a trench. Hubby is out of town. :( A few of our drains in the yard were clogged up, I got those cleaned out. I am drenched but the yard is draining.

My issues are minor though as compared to those that are stuck on the roadways.

Wow! Just heard on the news that all major roadways in Sugarland are impassable.

Tuesday evening weather briefing from Jeff:

This evening rainfall of 3-5 inches has occurred over the SW portion of Harris County in 3 hrs or less.

This has resulted in the rapid rise on lower Keegans Bayou and Willow Waterhole (Westbury area) to bankfull levels. Brays Bayou is rapidly rising, but within banks.

The training rainfall appears to be shifting slightly southward into southern Fort Bend and northern Brazoria and northern Galveston Counties, and off areas that have recently been heavily impacted. Will need to keep a close eye on additional development over W and N Fort Bend County that could track along US 59 and back into areas already hard hit. Air mass is likely starting to get worked over some and that may help with an overall weakening trend

In addition to the heavy rainfall over SW Harris County, rainfall amounts of 5-9 inches occurred this afternoon over NE Harris County in the Kingwood/Humble area resulting in significant street flooding. Water is taking time to go down due to the large volume of water that fell in such a short period of time.

Sienna Plantation to Angleton is getting some hard rain, atm. Existing Flood Warning probably needs to be tweaked to the east to 521 or 288.

They get an inch of rain and are now releasing 1500CFS while the lake is just at flood pool. No way they are intaking 1500CFS. Meanwhile Lake Houston is at full go and over spillway to almost Tax day flood levels. Kingwood has received 12 inches since 10am... we need the San Jac as low as possible right now as it drains into Lake Houston and Lake Houston cant keep up with it's own local rain water intake!

Boy, that line of disturbed rain isn't giving up easily. The red blob that was along the Brazos a few minutes ago is crossing 35 and headed for Texas City.
