Call it luck of the draw? We had a short but impressive thundershower in NW Harris County around 11:00 AM that dropped a quick 3rd of an inch in 10 minutes and just spotty sprinkles since then. Current thinking is a Flash Flood Watch may be needed Thursday into Saturday across the Region. Tomorrow looks like the "driest day" of the work week. We'll see how that plays out.

Flooding here in Pasadena...

Many of the model runs yesterday and even early this morning had much of this activity west of I-45 and really developing north of I-10. Needless to say, take any of the short range mesoscale models with a grain of salt this week into the weekend. Like last week, they are behaving poorly.

Getting there will be the issue depending on where you are traveling from. Thanks for posting and we know you've been following for awhile! We've had a lot of folks lurking about lately and we encourage everyone to join in our weather conversations!

I totally understand. Many of us have experienced some much headache and stress since Memorial Day, Tax Day and Harvey.

Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion 0202
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
509 PM EDT Tue May 07 2019

Areas affected......Southeast Texas to adjacent western LA...

Concerning...Heavy rainfall...Flash flooding possible

Valid 072109Z - 080109Z

SUMMARY...Convection across southeast Texas to adjacent western LA
presents a threat for localized flash flooding this afternoon...

DISCUSSION...Convection is persisting where low-mid level moist
onshore flow has produced an axis of above normal moisture with
precipitable water values near 2 inches along the southeast Texas
coast. The 18z NAM indicates continued bands of moist confluent
flow with 700 mb convergence and 300 mb divergence maxima
supporting continuing bands and clusters of heavy showers/storms.

Forecast soundings show a classic warm advection profile across
southeast Texas with net southerly motion from the surface to 700
mb resulting in a north motion to the areas of showers/storms.
Additional cells are likely due to RAP forecast 700 mb vertical
motions and high relative humidity in an environment where the SPC
mesoscale analysis shows mixed layer CAPE values near 2000 j/kg.

Locally heavy rainfall has already occurred down by Houston and
additional shower/storm mergers should result in additional
pockets of locally heavy rain.
The high res guidance has struggled in the placement and timing of
rainfall, with the last couple of runs of the RAP picking up on
the location of heaviest activity.

Activity should wind down this evening once the atmosphere
stabilizes and the intensity of the low level convergence wanes.
The 20z high Res Rapid Refresh/18z Nam Conus Nest show clusters of
2-3 inches with isolated 4 inch maxima in southeast Texas.
Isolated flash flooding is possible in these persistent
thunderstorms.
