JANUARY 2018 - Seasonal WX Week/Pacific Front Saturday
Sun being out could act as an ingredient for some stronger storms later this afternoon and evening. HRRR is picking up on another line of storms developing out west behind this line that just came through the Houston area. More sun = more time for the atmosphere to recharge. While most of us are sitting in the lower to 60s right now thanks to rain cooled air, temperatures will probably increase to upper 60s to low 70s by 4:00PM.BlueJay wrote:The rain is gone and the sun is out.
Few storms are already starting to fire off on I-10 near Sealy and just west of Columbus.

Looking at GOES13, there appears to be some sort of mid-level vorticity near Brenham as well.
Agree. I do not know how to upload GIF/animation on here, but outlined in yellow there is definitely mid-level vorticity. Notice how sharp the clearing line is from the first line of storms. I'm here in Pasadena and the sun is out and it's muggy/humid.jasons wrote:Looking at GOES13, there appears to be some sort of mid-level vorticity near Brenham as well.
Red outline is where the atmosphere is destabilizing quickly. Already a 60-65 dBZ near Columbus firing up.

Pea sized hail reported in Katy. Looks much colder tonight and into early next week. I'm still battling the flu bug going around. Stay warm tomorrow morning! Wind chills will be in the upper teens (inland) to upper 20's along the Coast.

Storms are now in Harris Co. and are intensifying. Dime size hail already being reported in Katy. Lighting activity is picking up, too! Storms moving through about 25mph. Everything should be out of here around 5:30 as winds will begin to pick up and temperatures begin to drop. Looks like most everyone will get below 32F tonight with wind chills much colder (upper teens/lower 20s).

Grrr, was hoping to hold-off on bringing the plants in until tomorrow - looks like I will be spending my evening outside, out in the cold wind instead. I'm beginning to just detest this winter.
Winds just shifted and kicked-up here too. Very gusty. My countdown to return flow begins.
Pea sized hail at the office in Stafford
I didn't see any hail, but the rain was really picking up as I drove towards the house from the Beltway. Was coming down really hard when I pulled into the driveway. <I live in Stafford>davidiowx wrote:Pea sized hail at the office in Stafford

Waiting for the 00z run to complete.don wrote:Things may get interesting next Tuesday as we get another reinforcing shot of cold air with a disturbance moving through the area. The 0z Euro shows a wintry mix across central and Southeast Texas as far south as the Houston area the GFS has been hinting at this also the last few runs fwiw.

Gusts up to 45 mph here in CLL. Just a smattering of rain this afternoon.
Canadian just flipped to frozen precip across northern counties on Tuesday.
Let’s see if the trends continue things could get interesting Tuesday...
