Nothing surprises me when attempting to forecast wintry weather in Southern Texas and Louisiana. Way too many forecasters have been burned for under predicting and over predicting these possible events. Last night was a prime example. None of the NWS offices (Fort Worth/Dallas, San Antonio/Austin and Houston/Galveston expected that snow band that developed out of this air with zero model support. Weather forecasting is a very humbling profession/experience. Also light sleet now reported in Boerne and will likely move into portions of Bexar near San Antonio shortly.

Snow falling at 10,000 ft across NW Harris County as virga. Cloud bases are getting darker to my West with heavier snow showers aloft. Could see a stray sleet pellet or two as the day wears on.

Yep. The models struggled mightily with last night and Dec 7 snows. If the DP comes up in Houston, who knows? Even thicker, more saturated clouds should be on their way:
Unless something else starts forming to our west, more like our west northwest, I don't see this little disturbance bringing us a thing. Maybe later tonight or tomorrow the unexpected will materialize.
Interesting that this week, as with the last snow event, we had more snow detected south of the Houston area than in the Houston metro area. Good old southeast Texas weather!!
Light snow reported in Gatesville and McGregor in FWD Forecast Area and light sleet reported in Pearland, Mission Bend, Johnson Space Center, at the HGX office and in Texas City at this time.

You think things are starting to ramp up some?
If that snow band can overcome a fairly good dry layer as it appears it has across portions of central Texas, a few snow flakes/sleet pellets are possible for some in SE Texas. Below is the latest HRRR reflectivity maps.
