Looks like we could be on a sleet pellet/flurry watch Monday night into Tuesday.
Colder Arctic push isn’t here yet... looks like it just arrived in CS
Yep - Temps are starting to tank here. Hearne is about 34°F. Chance of wintry mix, including snow, from Hearne to Temple to Waco now in this afternoon's forecast. Waco is receiving freezing drizzle now. Would not be surprised to CLL in for a little freezing drizzle or whatever by sunset. Looks like we down to Nowcasting again.

For those wondering if January will continue to be chilly, the Hot of the Presses Update from the Climate Prediction Center for the month of January suggests yes!...

Our updated January outlook generally anticipates warmer than normal conditions across the west and cooler than usual temperatures from the Plains eastward. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/p ... ge/lead14/

The NAM is starting to sniff out some possible wintry mischief also, from the system on Tuesday.

It appears that the Waco snow band is moving south.

I wonder if it can hold together and make it to Williamson County.

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 729 PM CST Sun Dec 31 2017 ...Winter Weather Advisory in effect for parts of the Brazos Valley until 10 pm... ...Wind Chill Advisory in effect late tonight... .A band of fast moving light precipitation will be moving into parts of the Brazos Valley this evening. Temperatures are below freezing at the surface, so icing of some roads and bridges will be a possibility. This precipitation could be in the form of freezing rain or drizzle also mixed with some snow or sleet. Moderate north winds coupled with very cold temperatures will produce wind chill values between 10 and 15 degrees late tonight into early Monday. TXZ195-196-198-010930- /O.NEW.KHGX.WW.Y.0001.180101T0129Z-180101T0400Z/ /O.CON.KHGX.WC.Y.0001.180101T0900Z-180101T1500Z/ Brazos-Burleson-Grimes- Including the cities of Bryan, Caldwell, College Station, Lake Somerville, and Navasota 729 PM CST Sun Dec 31 2017 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CST THIS EVENING... ...WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 9 AM CST MONDAY... The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the possibility of frozen precipitation and low wind chills, which is in effect until 10 PM CST this evening. * EVENT...A fast moving band of mixed precipitation will fall over already freezing surface temperatures. This precipitation could be in the form of freezing rain or drizzle also mixed with some snow or sleet. Wind chill factors falling to as low as 10 to 15 degrees. * TIMING...precipitation between now and 10 pm. Lowest wind chills occuring between 5 and 7 AM. * IMPACT...A wind chill advisory signals significantly lower wind chill values than are typically seen in Southeast Texas. People who spend time outdoors with exposed skin can become vulnerable to frostbite. Additionally, the cold temperatures create a threat for hypothermia in those who are not dressed warmly enough to keep their core temperature at a safe level. A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving. A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will lead to hypothermia and potential frostbite for those who face extended exposure to these conditions with insufficient protection. If you expect to be outdoors, especially for an extended time, be sure to cover exposed skin and wear enough layers to keep your body warm.

The Big Flakes have arrived in College Station. Not sure how long they will last. We're on the tail end of the band.

Wow, the wind is really whipping the snow around. Nothing significant sticking yet.

3 areas of interest on the radar. The area offshore Southwest of Brownsville, the area north and west of del rio, and the one south of Ciudad Juarez.

Any thoughts on them?

Unbelievable. Twice in a month, much less a season here in the Brazos Valley! A bit sticking to cars, grass...but the heaviest snow remains West and still moving towards Austin to maybe hempstead and NW Narris Co. Nothing like the Dec 7 event. The level of snowfall would stick around for 2-3 days after this front.

One of the best parts was to hear kids literally screaming in delight around the neighborhood. Happy New Year, and may it be the best yet, including weathewise!
