so I have a question y Wendy Houston national weather office issued a winter weather statement they include most cities that are expected not to get any freezing rain why do they list all those cities above when there's no chance of getting it

Good question. The region is within a few degrees of freezing after the rain starts falling, north of Houston. Houston's low probably around 33°-34°... Conroe cooler than that.
Now, easy to get excited about dew points being so low and the wet bulbing potential, but dew points are actually starting to moisten, which may significantly reduce any chance for temperatures to dip below freezing, unless you're 60 miles NW of Houston.

Ok I'm in new caney..so would I be worried about wet bulbing and getting freezing rain here?
I live in one of the cities listed in that special weather statement saying that it is possible we could get some freezing rain.My question is when will this be included in their forecast.
What about the reinforcing shot of cold air coming? Wouldn't that act to lower the dewpoints?

You folks in the NE side are like we are in the Katy Prairie portion of NW Harris County. We tend to be a a few degrees colder than DW Hooks or IAH. I'm at about 140 feet above sea level up here, so we tend to be borderline in these type events. You are a bit closer the the San Jacinto River and perhaps a lot more natural Pines than we have NW. It's going to be a close call. Stay Tuned!tx_kingwood32 wrote:Ok I'm in new caney..so would I be worried about wet bulbing and getting freezing rain here?

No. I have no frozen precip in my forecast throughout this event currently. Temperatures busted about 3-4 degrees too warm up here for highs, Also reports of sleet coming in again from the Austin area.

I'm at 36 now dew point 20. Right on the Medina river in Bandera, Tx. Really excited to watch things unfold out here. I will be running for roughly 13 or 14 hours on Saturday. Can't wait. Bet those trails get treacherous
I doubt you will have any impacts either morning. Could drop to 32 for a short period of time...but think any precip will be very light.tx_kingwood32 wrote:Ok I'm in new caney..so would I be worried about wet bulbing and getting freezing rain here?
Note: I encountered about 3 ice pellets and maybe 25 rain drops on the way home this afternoon about 345 at the Beltway and Westpark Toll Rd.
Wet bulb temperature for N Harris County is right at 32 and warms south of that. Gonna need more QPF than the models are showing to really wet bulb it down.brooksgarner wrote:Just got a report of snow flurries on St. Simons Island, Georgia! Ocean effect... first memory of that since 1989...
Okay, so what do you guys think about this wet bulbing potential. With 40°F with an 11° dew point, if it starts raining we're talking about a roughly 8-10° temperature drop potential... pretty close.
Surface warm air advection is in progress over SE TX...note wind direction is from the south. Td at Palacios is up to 32...Td's will rise tonight even with no precip. Expect the temps. to only cool maybe 2-3 degrees. South winds usually do not promote much if any temp fall especially with thickening mid level deck
