You'll be happy to know that the Cockroach Ridge (tm) has taken up residence over 45 in Spring. I've watched storm after storm go allll around us of late.

PS Inquiring friends want to know if there really is such as thing as a "Cockroach Ridge?" They've thrown out everything from "it's shaped like a cockroach" to "umm....a high pressure ridge over Houston?" Enlighten, please. :)

I got caught in no-man's land today or something. Just a couple of drops here but it poured all around me. :(

I am the one who came up with the term "Cockroach Ridge". It refers to anything that deprives us of rain and gives us drought, either high pressure or warm and dry air aloft. I call it the cockroach ridge because it is annoying like a cockroach. The vermin that runs around the house and you get RAID to spray them.  You think it is gone and it comes back, like a cockroach, which is fitting. Hope it explains it.

Drove throguh at least 50 mph winds on I10 west of Winnie, some small pea sized hail too. At one point I couldn't see anything and thoguht I would surely be plowed into by another car.

Looks like another shot at rain for those of us that have missed out...

...GULF COAST REGION...
STRONG SURFACE HEATING WITHIN A MOISTURE-RICH BOUNDARY LAYER WILL
ONCE AGAIN SUPPORT SCATTERED CLUSTERS OF STRONG/BRIEFLY SEVERE PULSE
STORMS IN A WEAKLY SHEARED ENVIRONMENT.

That ridge extends from I45 down 2920 towards Tomball as well - I've watched everything split in two before it gets to my house at Kuykendahl, and pass North and South - ugh......

Things are looking good. This is a more typical setup for us to get some decent downpours this afternoon as the sea breeze advances inland. I just hope it doesn't dodge the house again.

Only negative about today is these storms may be going off a little to early before peak heating resulting in less "boom" from the outflow boundaries that are being shot out now. Time to watch and cross my fingers as I have also been dodged by all these storms over the past two days.

It looks like those storms are going to set up shop on the western fringes of the area. Hopefully as the air gets warmer today, this will expand eastward as well. Not holding my breathe though because I have missed EVERY rain chance going all the way back to February and I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1117 AM CDT TUE JUN 7 2011

.DISCUSSION...
A STRONG SEABREEZE IS ALREADY MOVING ONTO THE UPPER TX COAST THIS
MORNING RESULTING IN A BAND OF HEAVY SHOWERS/T-STORMS WHICH IS
STEADILY MOVING INLAND. AREAS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 10 WHICH HAVE
LARGELY MISSED OUT ON THE RAIN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS WILL
BENEFIT FROM THIS ACTIVITY. MORNING ANALYSIS SHOWS SOME
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE ATMOSPHERE COMPARED TO YESTERDAY AT
THIS TIME. SFC DEWPOINTS ARE RUNNING MUCH HIGHER (CURRENTLY IN THE
LOWER 70S). 12Z LCH SOUNDING SHOWS NO CAPPING AND A LOT MORE
SATURATION IN THE LOW TO MID LEVELS. PWS RANGE FROM 1.6-1.8 INCHES
NEAR THE COAST TO 1.3-1.5 INCHES NRN ZONES. THE SEABREEZE SHOULD
REMAIN A FOCUS FOR CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT AS IT SPREADS INLAND.
HAVE DECIDED TO UP POPS TO 30 PCT FOR THE SRN 2/3 OF THE AREA THIS
AFTN. GIVEN THE HIGHER SFC DEWPOINTS AND GREATER SATURATION IN THE
MID LEVELS...THE OVERALL RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER WILL BE MUCH
LOWER THAN THE LAST TWO DAYS. STILL...AN ISOLATED DOWNBURST OR
FUNNEL CLOUDS WILL BE POSSIBLE. TEMPERATURES ARE RUNNING 4 TO 6
DEGREES LOWER THAN AT THIS TIME YESTERDAY. MAX TEMPS SHOULD BE
CONSIDERABLY LOWER THAN YESTERDAY ESPECIALLY OVER THE SRN
HALF...BUT COULD STILL TOUCH RECORDS AT EACH LOCATION PRIOR TO THE
ARRIVAL OF THE SEABREEZE.

TODAY`S HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS:
COLLEGE STATION: 100/1948
HOUSTON (IAH): 99/1903
HOUSTON (HOU): 98/1977
GALVESTON: 91/2008

I don't think Hobby will get anywhere close to the record today - the sea breeze/outflow is almost there!
