February Ends Warm and Dry
It's 24 degrees right now in Katy. Did anyone realize it was going to be this cold this fast with this weather system? I don't remember dropping immediately into the 20's last week and I wonder how cold it will be tonight if it is 24 here and the sun is out!!
Geez, it's cold! I was concerned about all of this (colder temps) when I saw negative readings in the Panhandle late yesterday. This could be the coldest night for me yet, even colder than last year's 19F at this rate.
And I thought after surviving last week this week was going to be easy - yikes!
I was out about an hour ago doing final preps and there were still a few flurries flying around, but it was light. Slowly clearing out here now.
PS - the philodendrons can be saved. As a last resort, cut all the leaves and wrap the trunks.

I've lost my Hibiscus plants AGAIN. I don't know if they will make it back this time. No amarylis again this year either since they won't have time to make it back to bloom for Easter.srainhoutx wrote:My poor Date Palm has bit the dust. I nursed it back after last winter, but I fear the worse. Ice today totally collapsed the canopy of that long nurtured plant.

The current temperature here in Baytown is 30ºF with a wind chill that makes the actual temperature of the air feel like 18ºF

Sun is peaking in NW Houston as dry air filters in. Really bad news for us as temps will really drop tonight.

cloud cover coming from mexico?

I noticed that too on the visible satellite that andrew posted...
What are those clouds moving across mexico?
I'm not so sure we will clear tonight. Sure seems to be a lot of cloudiness moving in from Mexico. Is that all high clouds or are we seeing something with moisture content(for lack of better words) moving in?Andrew wrote:Sun is peaking in NW Houston as dry air filters in. HGX 5:50 PM:
.AVIATION...
WHILE THE BULK OF THE PCPN IS MOVING OUT TO THE EAST...THERE ARE
STILL ISSUES CONCERNING THE LINGERING WRAP AROUND MVFR CLOUDS IN
ITS WAKE FOR THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. DID OPT TO KEEP A BKN VFR DECK
IN FOR THE NIGHT AS THERE DOES APPEAR TO BE SOME MORE CLOUDS COM-
ING IN FROM THE WEST. OTHERWISE...THE STRONG NORTHERLY FLOW WILL
BE DECREASING OVERNIGHT WITH AREAWIDE CLEARING BY/JUST AFTER SUN
RISE TOMORROW.

Here is in infrared view of the moisture from EPAC.
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/nepac/loop-avn.html
It looks more than high clouds. Looks like some rain in them.

Julie, you can bet Mother nature is hee-hawing at us right now.

If HGX is correct that may keep the temps up a little tonight from what it was looking like we might get to. Seems to have settled right around 26f attm.
SSSHHH! They'll hear you and jinx us.Baseballdude2915 wrote:Thick clouds down in south Texas coming up the coast. Could it...?
Nahhhhh

alright now do we really have a realistic shot at seeing precipitation from those clouds?
