Sat WV imagery showing a drying pocket from ULL SWWD. Looks like NTexas might have a break/slow down in precip from what I'm seeing. However, WV showing moisture increase and some IR precip around TX Big Bend area...will be interesting to see how overrunning might play out.

Not really. There has always been a chance that this system would over perform regarding the amount of cold air to our E being drawn in. They were removed from a Winter Storm Watch yesterday, though. Little or no accumulation was/is expected.

For what it's worth, the 12Z GFS suggests the colder retreat will a bit slower and will not last all that long...
HGX has updated as well
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1003 AM CST SUN JAN 9 2011

A STRONG AREA OF LOW PRESSURE JUST EAST OF GALVESTON WILL CONTINUE
TO MOVE EAST THIS MORNING. RAIN WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS MOVED
QUICKLY EAST THIS MORNING AND FOR THE MOST PART IS OUT OF THE
REGION. PRECIPITATION DEVELOPING BENEATH THE UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL
MOVE ACROSS THE NORTHERN ZONES THIS AFTERNOON. HAVE LOWERED POPS
OVER THE SOUTH FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY AND TRIMMED POPS
SLIGHTLY OVER THE NORTH. 12Z NAM12 SUPPORTS SOME SLEET OVER THE
NORTH SO WILL LEAVE WINTRY MIX IN PLACE OVER THE EXTREME NORTH.
WINDS HAVE BEGUN TO DECREASE BUT WILL LET THE ADVISORY RUN THROUGH
18Z. WILL ISSUE A QUICK UPDATE FOR POPS AND WILL UPDATE AGAIN AT
18Z WHEN THE WIND ADVISORY EXPIRES.

Northern LA, and NE Texas is where the winter weather is. That is pretty much what was expected for today. Folks in DFW have had rain. They could get a switchover to all Snow as the day wears on. Areas north of DFW, even though radar does not depict it, most likely are getting a mix today. Excepting NE Texas, this event will be remembered by the rains we've had. No big winter precip. problems. That pretty much sums up what was being said last night. You folks in northern LA can expect a mess around there. In the meantime, it is chilly outside. Not a flurry to be seen.
So, now we wait for mid. week. We'll look at it on Monday to see how our temps and moisture levels are going to look.

Careful with those automated observation stations. The 15Z RUC vertical profile for Lufkin doesn't indicate the air column aloft would support snow. It's even difficult to get snow in Dallas given the vertical profile, but they'll see SOME up there. Of course, there are no upper air stations near Lufkin, so it's slightly possible that there is some colder air aloft than in the surrounding areas. Highly suspect ob, though.tireman4 wrote:Was that expected?srainhoutx wrote:Lufkin reporting light snow...

As for us, 12Z GFS meteogram indicating a low in the upper 20s Wednesday then a steady then rapid warm-up. Dry after today. Frozen precip chances not far from zero.

lost power here at the house for about 3+ hours due to high winds. Just got it back!!!! Glad i had propane heat !!!

But, with all due respect Wxman57, that is the GFS, not the NAM or Canadian...
Interesting that there is snow flakes and sleet falling here in Houston.srainhoutx wrote:Could be. I have light rain with a sleet pellet or two mixing in now in NW Harris County.harpman wrote:Someone on our forum here just reported flakes falling in Katy?? Is that possible?
