I partially blame this on the "100 degrees is better than 30 degrees crowd." Shush.

I’ll take 100 over 30. I can’t do jack outside when it’s 30°. Yesterday I did 7 miles between 6pm-7:30pm and I was just fine.

This is just odd. Bertha sitting on top of me right now and nothing but mist and now maybe a 10mph breeze. Complete 180 of what TS normally are.

I know all the rain and wind is as sheared south, but still, near the eye is just strange. Lol

Strange seeing people mow their lawns and wash their car while a tropical storm sits on top of us. Lol.

When we get heavy rain here, our property stays under water for several days. We even have portable sump pumps we deploy to empty the yard faster, but even after the pumps are done, there's still soggy ground we have to wait to dry before we mow. So yeah, I was out mowing the back yard yesterday and our back field today, just in case. I was also thinking how odd it was to not be dragging plants and things inside and putting up the storm screens with a TS in the GOM.

With the cloud cover, though, it sure was nice when on the tractor.

1PM Thursday Bertha Update:
Welcome to Texas, Bertha. I saw "welcome" because Bertha's clouds are already bringing us some major heat relief compared to what we had yesterday. Instead of highs in the low 100s, we're in the upper 80s and low 90s today.

The storm's center has crossed the border from Louisiana and is tracking toward an evening arrival in Houston. Normally when you see the center of a tropical system tracking your way, you brace for high impacts, but Bertha isn't your normal storm. The wind shear continues to push the biggest storms and impacts well southwest of the center. Thank you, El Nino.

The strongest storms and winds will move ashore into Texas this afternoon and evening, so it will get a little more active as the day goes on. The brunt of the impacts will be felt from Matagorda Bay southward to Brownsville. That said, the last few days we have observed stronger storms firing up along the southern edge of Bertha's center as evening approaches, and we suspect something similar may happen today. Those storms could produce briefly heavy rainfall and wind gusts in the 30-40 mph range.

Along the coast, you'll likely feel some stronger winds later today, but we're talking gusts in the 40-50 mph range at most. The waters could get rough with dangerous rip currents, and the Gulf waves will top out in the 6-9 foot range.

We'll keep you updated as needed, and feel free to pass along any weather photos, videos, and significant weather reports my way.

No tropical stuff will grow in College Station. Everything that actually lives here and can take our alkaline conditions survives 30°F. I have no idea why some horticulturalists in Houston pretend they're in Miami.

The COC is a naked swirl crossing into Texas. That's a huge separation with the convection. lol. As suspected.

Im in Beaumont and big bertha is sitting overhead. 5 mph breeze and cloudy. Had a bit of sunshine a while ago. I guess that was her version of “the eye” of the storm? Lol. Im sure Houston will experience the same later this evening.

It sure is a welcome sight compared to our 103 heat yesterday. Im a “cold weather” person. Heat? No bueno.

Yes - I completely agree that it's far easier to like Bertha in Texas more than when she was in Louisiana!

- Slight chance of rain.

Feels much better than yesterday outside. No mas on yesterday's weather!
