It’ll be an all-day affairCrashTestDummy wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 12:10 pm We were going to do an autocross event today up near IAH. When I got up to check the Radarange, it was a big ol' 'Nope!' for us. They postponed the start of the event an hour, then cancelled for safety. We put the race car up, and it was starting to sprinkle on us. Came back in and checked the radar, and wow, it's now cleared up at IAH, but there's a band heading right for us now!!
May 2024

Another round of heavy rain moving into the metro area again with more behind it developing...

Radar looked promising, but I only got 0.10" that's not going to cut it.

I cant wait for the sun to come out! Got nearly 10 inches over the last couple of days, im ready for that sunshine to replace this weather!
You must be in College Station cuz I know Katy hasn’t gotten that much.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 2:24 pm I cant wait for the sun to come out! Got nearly 10 inches over the last couple of days, im ready for that sunshine to replace this weather!
There are some showers right along I-10. We had another 1.38 inches overnight for a total of 11.8 inches for the week. Save some for summer! lol

This has been mighty underwhelming thus far, not that that’s a bad thing for points north
The difference there is the winter. Gainesville is in the middle of the peninsula and there are plenty of sunny days in the winter. The rain mainly falls in late June, July, August, September - the opposite of College Station. Closer to Savannah and east coast rainfall: 45-55 inches.user:null wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 11:34 amAnd going far eastward also gets a "dry out" in annual totals from that 60+, but more due to dry tendencies in winter/spring compared to the northern Gulf:DoctorMu wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 2:37 pmIt's that angle from the Gulf since most of the prevailing mid and upper level air is SW to NE or West to East.
For example, Corpus Christi is right on the Gulf Coast but only receives about 32 inches of rain a year. They are closer to the SW cap and Mexican air squashing rain chances. The dry line never makes it to Corpus inhibiting rain chances in April. September and later tropical season are their best chance of rain. Brownsville sees less than 27 in of rain/year.
...whereas LA, MS, AL, FL panhandle coasts are deluged with Gulf moisture all year round! 60+ inches/year are typical.
Indeed there is a steep gradient for rainfall on the west side of Houston which continues west and toward Mexico...
Totals are 48 inches in Gainesville and Savannah,
Orlando, Jacksonville, Charleston, etc have similar 50-55inch totals as Houston area.
Especially pronounced in inland areas of Atlantic states: Columbia in SC and Raliegh in NC get ~45 inches. Charlotte NC gets "only" 43 inches of rain annually.
There's a reason those snowbirds come on down to the Georgia and Florida coasts in the winter!
Those storms brewing between Pearsall and Laredo look some kind of nasty.
Yeah, lots of snowbirds in peninsular Florida. Not sure I heard of the scene in Georgia (or even northern Florida at the Panhandle/First Coast areas).DoctorMu wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 2:49 pmThe difference there is the winter.
