The new weather station is up and online. Perfect installation on the first try. The leveling bubble was perfectly centered once I got everything tightened down.
Currently reporting 65 degrees and awaiting the first official drops in the rain bucket.
December 2023
There's rain just north in the Woodlands. Nothing here.
Our new weather station just arrived. Thought about a Tempest, but saved a few $ for now with an Ambient Weather system.
I think the Ambient stations are solid based on the research I did.
The Tempest seemed promising but the one down the road is wonky for sure. I’ve been comparing my readings with a Davis Vantage Pro 2 in the neighborhood and we are the same, but the Tempest has been 2 degrees warmer all day. That aligns with what I have observed.

Those Davis stations are expensive. I got the Ambient Weather WS-2000 last year off Amazon. It had really good reviews and I got it for a very reasonable price. It was regular $300 and I got it for $170.jasons2k wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 6:43 pmI think the Ambient stations are solid based on the research I did.

Found my Vantage Vue with console on Scientific Sales for less than $500. They have reconditioning kits so I thought it was worth the investment.

I’m going to look into this and mount it on our hay pasture fence where it gets direct sunlight. Thanks for posting.

This mounting pole was solid and didn’t cost me an arm and a leg:MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 10:51 pmI’m going to look into this and mount it on our hay pasture fence where it gets direct sunlight. Thanks for posting.

What’s the latest date of Houston’s first freeze? Have we ever had a freeze less winter?
I used this to see Houston first and last freeze.vci_guy2003 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 9:49 am What’s the latest date of Houston’s first freeze? Have we ever had a freeze less winter?

Houston's latest first freeze is March 9, 1932. It snowed that time in March 1932.
Turns out Houston did not have a low of 32°F. The winter of 1930-1931 did not see a freeze. However, I think it maybe dubious. Same goes with 1905-1906 and 1906-1907, but data is missing. So, that should be taken with a grain of salt.
Mild, normal to below normal rainfall through the end of the month on the Models and Ensembles.
It looks like an El Nunya.
It looks like an El Nunya.
I will say this though, the ensembles do look better than the operationals so there’s still hope.

Pretty consistent that New Years and into January looks delicious everywhere for cold and precip.

Has El Nino peaked yet or not?
