Nothing more than isolated to maybe scattered storms this weekend. Even tropical disturbances fall apart around us. Summer drought feedback processes have begun around here...

I hope something pops on the radar today!

Look now or you'll miss it -- if you look at a close-up visible satellite image loop over Texas you can see the cloud field develop around Lake Livingston but the lake itself remains cloud-free. It really shows-up well on the satellite pics this morning.

When can we expect this ridge to move so we can get some rain here? I know everyone is as desperate for rain as I am, so I am not trying to sound the "whoa is me" bell, I was just curious. I have started watering the foundation a couple of times a week, I don't know what to do if/when we get put on water rations.
My name is Nicole and I love weather!!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1123 AM CDT SAT JUN 4 2011

.DISCUSSION...
ANOTHER UNSEASONABLY HOT DAY IN STORE FOR THE AREA TODAY. SIMILAR
TO THE PAST FEW DAYS...MOISTURE IS QUICKLY MIXING AWAY FROM THE
SFC CAUSING THE DEWPOINTS TO FALL. SFC DEWPOINTS ARE ALREADY DOWN
TO THE LOWER TO MID 60S OVER THE NRN HALF OF THE AREA. THE
COMBINATION OF THE FALLING DEWPOINTS AND ABUNDANT SUNSHINE WILL
ALLOW TEMPS TO SOAR AGAIN THIS AFTN. READINGS ARE ACTUALLY RUNNING
2-3 DEGREES COOLER THAN AT THIS TIME YESTERDAY BECAUSE OF THE
COOLER START...SO KEPT MAX TEMPS WITHIN A DEGREE OR TWO OF
YESTERDAY`S. STILL...SOME RECORDS COULD BE THREATENED THIS AFTN.
THE REMNANTS OF AN MCS ARE PUSHING WESTWARD THROUGH SW LOUISIANA.
A WEAK OUTFLOW COULD SERVE AS THE FOCUS FOR SOME CONVECTIVE
DEVELOPMENT NEAR THE TX/LA BORDER LATE THIS AFTN. 00Z 4KM NMM-WRF
SHOWS THIS ACTIVITY PUSHING WEST THROUGH THE AREA TONIGHT.
KEPT
THE 20 POPS IN THE FORECAST AS A RESULT.

Upper Texas Coast has been dry. This spring is the second driest on record.

Code: Select all

1.) 2003 2.56
2.) 2011 2.87
3.) 1963 2.91
4.) 1996 3.13
5.) 1978 3.26
6.) 1998 3.32
7.) 1960 4.57
8.) 1899 5.02
9.) 1958 5.30
10.)1961 5.33
How does summer turns out following a dry spring?

Code: Select all

2003	16.91	3.92
1963	9.87	-3.12
1996	18.4	5.41
1978	12.14	-0.85
1998	11.13	-1.86
1960	24.46	11.47
1899	15.09	2.1
1958	7.87	-5.12
1961	23.06	10.07

Interesting to note that the wettest summer on records happened after the driest spring on record. Spring 1960 and 1961 are some of the driest spring on record. Some of the summers had flood events, like in 1899 and 1960. Also, tropical cyclones have made landfall, like in 1899, 1960, 1961, 1998, and 2003. There is hope that we could have a wet summer.

Left over clouds from shower/storm activity over Louisiana may keep temps down just a bit. The good news is moisture in the mid/upper levels rotating underneath the Ridge and above a TUTT low in the Western Gulf should provide for at least a chance of isolated showers/storms through Monday. Monday may be our better day for seeing those rain chances increased. Fingers crossed!

Also, the flow today is slightly offshore. This should create some decent convergence along the sea breeze front this afternoon :-)

Nice CU field developing just NW of Metro Houston and another just NE. The 15Z HRRR model is suggesting storms may fire with the NW area. :P

Scattered showers and thunderstorms now starting to break out across areas north of I-10 as temps have warmed into the upper 90's and low 100's. Will have to watch out for strong winds in the stronger storms this afternoon and evening. The latest mesoanalysis shows a nice tongue of deeper moisture across southeast Texas this afternoon with ML CAPES in the 2500-3000j/kg range.

From HGX:

THE COMBINATION OF THE STRONG RIDGE ALOFT AND ABUNDANT SUNSHINE
HAS RESULTED IN RECORDS BEING SHATTERED ONCE AGAIN TODAY. HIGHS SO
FAR INCLUDE HOUSTON/IAH 102 DEGREES...HOUSTON/HOBBY 101 DEGREES...
COLLEGE STATION AND LEAGUE CITY BOTH 99 DEGREES...AND GALVESTON
97 DEGREES. FOR HOUSTON/IAH THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS DAILY RECORD
BY SIX DEGREES. FOR GALVESTON...THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS DAILY
RECORD BY FIVE DEGREES...A RECORD WHICH WAS SET 136 YEARS AGO! FOR
BOTH HOUSTON AND GALVESTON THESE TEMPERATURES ARE THE HOTTEST EVER
RECORDED THIS EARLY IN THE SUMMER SEASON...AND ONLY TWO DEGREES
SHY OF THE ALL-TIME RECORDS FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE.
