That's why I was wondering what the surface temps were reading, redneck. We are watching this development closely here in New Orleans.

By the way, did you guys know the Saints won the Super Bowl? ;)
;) ;) ;)

I heard about it but I haven't kept up with the NFL ever since my beloved Oilers skipped out of town. I was a huge, and I mean HUGE Oilers fan. I'm still heart broken that we don't have the Oilers anymore. I guess I will becomes a Saints fan now. :D

If it makes Sleetstorm happy, even though it'll never stick, who am I to complain?
I will be happy simply to see sleet falling through the air and hearing it striking various surfaces. Yes, that would make me happy, Ed Mahmoud. ;)

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
253 PM CST WED FEB 10 2010

.DISCUSSION...
AN INCREASE IN MOISTURE COUPLED WITH A WEAK UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCE HAS PRODUCED PERIODS OF VERY LIGHT RAIN MIXED AT TIMES
WITH SLEET. THE SUB CLOUD LAYER IS VERY DRY AND PRECIPITATION IS
EVAPORATING AS IT FALLS COOLING THE COLUMN AND MAKING IT JUST COLD
ENOUGH FOR SLEET TO MAKE IT TO THE GROUND. WILL CARRY A MIX OF
LIGHT RAIN AND SLEET FOR THIS EVENING.
AS MOISTURE INCREASES
TONIGHT...THE EVAPORATIVE EFFECTS WILL LESSEN AND THE COLUMN WILL
WARM AND END THE THREAT FOR MIXED PRECIPITATION.

Just looking at the radar and looks like a huge band of icy stuff in western Montgomery county heading east. Wonder if it is actually reaching the ground?

I think that most if not all counties in southeast Texas just might receive sleet, whether it is light, moderate, heavy, brief, or all afternoon/evening/night? What do you think?

Just received from Jeff Lindner:

Getting several reports of sleet from our western counties...and in Sugar Land. Appears air mass is cold enough with the onset of precip. to support a sleet and then change to light rain. With surface temperatures in the mid 40's there will be no accumulation. ASOS stations reporting light rain...are likely not capturing the falling IP....I just drove through light to moderate sleet from US 59 at Beltway 8 all the way to Richmond...so the Sugar Land ASOS of light rain is not correct.

Will review additional guidance this evening for possible P-type mixture Thursday night/Friday AM

Very small sleet pellets at Beltway 8 near I-45. About the size of a pin head (1-2mm or about 1/16" diameter). Soundings did indicate that the best chance for sleet here would be with the onset of precip before low-level warm advection sets in when the low develops. But we could see rain/sleet mixed tomorrow. Wouldn't rule out a snowflake, but don't look for any accumulations.
