Amazing rain event in Austin right now. 3 inches of rain in the last hours near Mopac and 6th street. Many water calls for water entering houses. Waller creek is out of its banks at Red River and 10th street. Training storms for the last hour and half, not end in sight. Gonna be a long night for the AFD

Any reports from Mopac and W. Braker area??? I've got business interests in that area.

Man just taking a look at Radar I can take a wild guess. Hope people near the rivers are heeding this ....river levels are no doubt rising fast.

That is some serious flooding going on along the IH35 corridor. It's amazing what mother nature can throw at us. Hopefully there aren't too many people flooded out of their homes overnight!!!!!

A friend of mine reported 10" about an hour ago at his house in Austin ..... he said his house wasn't flooding yet but if it kept up he wasn't so sure. Checking radar trends it sure doesn't seem to want to let up at all. Even more development occuring SW of San Antonio ....frightening indeed.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
208 AM CDT WED SEP 8 2010

.DISCUSSION...
LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOOD EVENT CONTINUES TO UNFOLD THIS MORNING.
TRAINING CONVERGENCE LINE ASSOCIATED WITH HERMINE...NOW IN CENTRAL
TX...CONTINUING NEAR THE I35 CORRIDOR EARLY THIS MORNING AND
LIKELY TO CONTINUE THRU ABOUT 12Z BEFORE MODELS INDICATE A LET UP
BETWEEN 12Z AND 18Z. HAVE RECONFIGURED THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO
REMOVE THE 4 WESTERN MOST COUNTIES WHERE LITTLE RAIN HAS FALLEN
THUS FAR...AND EXPECTING MORE SPOTTY COVERAGE ON THE BACK SIDE OF
HERMINE. EVEN THOUGH HERMINE WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHWARD AWAY
FROM OUR AREA...AIRMASS WILL REMAIN VERY MOIST AND SUBJECT TO
ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT FROM HEATING THIS AFTERNOON...
SO EXTENDED
THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH THRU 6 PM THIS AFTERNOON. ANY REDEVELOPMENT
THIS AFTERNOON OVER SATURATED SOILS WILL BE QUICK TO ADD TO
ONGOING FLOODING PROBLEMS.

BY TONIGHT AS THE REMAINS OF HERMINE MOVE INTO OK AND THE UPPER
RIDGE BEGINS TO BUILD WESTWARD INTO THE AREA...WILL SEE
DIMINISHING RAIN CHANCES OVERNIGHT INTO THURSDAY. THE UPPER RIDGE
WILL BE THE DOMINATE FEATURE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS WEEK INTO
NEXT WEEK. THERE COULD BE ISOLATED AIRMASS SHOWERS FROM HEATING ON
ANY GIVEN DAY...HOWEVER HAVE GONE WITH A MOSTLY DRY FORECAST WITH
HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMALS...AND ABOVE
NORMAL MIN TEMPERATURES.

Looking like there is plenty of more rain on tap for Wednesday in the Houston/Galveston CWA ..... The event in San Antonio/Austin was just amazing to watch unfold overnight. I'm hoping for the best for everyone affected. Getting a few hours of shut eye right now ... thinking that Hermine still has a few surprises up her sleeve.

Yes dj ... it WAS insane! Most locations in the AUS metro along and to the west of I-35 have received 10-15 inches of rain. More than 30 roads are closed this morning, about a hundred homes had to be evacuated, numerous high-water rescues needed. Thanks to Hermine, the rain just wouldn't stop as a conveyor belt of moisture set up and kept doing its thing.

I'll you what ... I have lived in AUS for 26 years and I do not remember a tropical system have such a dramatic impact on Austin. Not like this.

WOW Portastorm and bluefalcon! I got home from a meeting around 11 last night and saw that band developing back down into MX and almost paralleling I-35. Thanks to dj and Met Tech for the updates overnight. Safe to say the Hill Country lakes are full. Sadly, Hermine has left a mark on TX.

Looks like a 30 to 50 % chance, with eastern areas on the lower side and increasing the further W you go. Let's see what some daytime heating can do to destabilize the atmosphere. It is still mighty 'juicy' out there this morning.

Hermine sure brought a lot of rain to the central and eastern sections of the state especially those cities along the I-35 corridor. There have been reports of up to 10 inches of rain in south Arlington in the DFW area.

As far as out local weather is concerned, the latest RUC analysis and model soundings indicate that the highest PW air is currently located across our far western counties and points west and north closer to the leftover center of Hermine. PW's remain high across the rest of southeast Texas but mostly cloudy skies have been holding temps down a bit but we will still likely see some scattered convective activity develop later this afternoon. Some locally heavy rain remains a possibility, especially west of I-45. Unfortunately, it looks like a another ridge of high pressure will be building into the region late in the week and into the weekend...so a return to our hot a humid weather will commence. Can't wait for our first front!
