A cold front will move across SE TX this afternoon and evening. The SPC has a marginal risk area for most of SE TX. A line of showers and thunderstorms will be possible ahead of the front. A few of the thunderstorms could become severe.

Sneaky severe weather setup today. Marginal risk could be under doing it. It’s calm, hot, and humid out. Seems like ideal conditions for severe weather.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
1156 AM CDT Tue May 5 2020

.UPDATE...

Regional temperatures have risen into the lower to middle 80s /
lower 70 dew points just downstream of an approaching cold front.
Morning southern propagating gravity waves not only assisted in
clearing out AM skies but may have also inhibited late morning
into early afternoon towering cumulus development. Clear skies
will allow temperatures to warm to around 90 F by 3 PM, eroding a
weak 85H cap noted on the ACARS soundings. This will occur in
tandem with the weak frontogenesis to possibly initiate development
and downstream evolution of central CWA discrete cells. Thus,
still anticipating shower and thunderstorm development to begin
later this afternoon over more southern counties as this frontal
boundary interacts with the local sea breeze boundary within a
heated and unstable late afternoon air mass. Much potential in the
thermo (i.e., CAPE) with little in the dynamic (i.e., shear) so
it is a definite `watch and wait` scenario through the mid
afternoon hours.

Looks like a couple hot spots beginning to flare up with the sea breeze.

Well crap. Looks like the stupid cap is holding strong as ever.
