Judging by the latest run of the models, it doesn’t look like these strong cold fronts are going to let up anytime soon over the next couple weeks. There could be another major front coming later next week. And a few days after that the 18z GFS has a 1050mb high dropping south out of Canada.

I just went outside to let the dogs out. That wet, chilly wind is brutal. No, thank you. This is Houston, Texas not Montana. I’m sleeping in tomorrow morning. Too cold to run.

So sad about the Astros :(

The advection is really rolling in here. Tomorrow will be a nice day to dry out. Another inch of rain in the backyard. I'm happy for our trees, bushes. Despite 2 application of fungicide over the last month and sulfur, the brown patch is back this afternoon with a vengeance. With a frost night tomorrow night, that's the end of mowing season.

This time of year can feature our best weather. Not steel gray Nov skies like the midwest, and El Nino Jan and Feb (like last winter). Cold (that's relative in TX) weather is not a bother, but rain and cold are no fun. It might as well snow.

38F in NW Harris County and breezy. The forecast low tomorrow morning for IAH is 33F. Our typical first freeze at Bush is around December 6th or so.

This afternoon should be sunny and in the 50s. Great weather for running.

Low near freezing tonight in CLL, Conroe and NW Harris.

The freeze warning now includes Montgomery County.

They really should issue a frost advisory further south. Frost can actually be more damaging to sensitive plants than a light freeze.

That reminds me - as you know in Florida, orange farmers will cover the trees with water so that cooling freezes the water and thus protects the tree from frost-related damage.

Yes, they do. And the NWS offices down there are super-vigilant about frost and freeze advisories. But it’s necessary down there so maybe I am spoiled.

You know, since the wind went calm, trick-or-treating with the kids was just fine. The glass (couple) of wine helped too ;) Happy Halloween everyone!!
