His point was it was already a TS by the time they ‘officially’ upgraded it to a TD. They could have just skipped the TD designation altogether.

Is it me or once this makes land fall it doesnt look like a whole lot of rain is out in the gulf..maybe its just my radar that i use on my phone

Any chance this thing sits in one spot for days? It hardly had any movement to begin with..

Radar cannot pick up rain that far out into the Gulf. There is a ton of rain out there.

Yes. We’ll be dealing with this through Friday. Collapsed steering currents will cause it to drift very slowly. Same thing that happened during Harvey.

In a way this reminds me a bit of Allison, in that it developed quickly at the coast, moved inland within a few hours of being named and was a slow moving rain maker. I'm not saying we are looking at Allison type impacts, but the way it has developed thus far reminds me of that storm's development.

The core is really wrapping up as it makes landfall I think Imelda will be slow to weaken and will probably maintain its organization well inland.

NNW movement? Heck of a dry slot between the core and those bands making there way towards Beaumont.

* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
- A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR BRAZORIA ISLANDS,
COASTAL BRAZORIA, COASTAL GALVESTON, COASTAL HARRIS, AND
GALVESTON ISLAND AND BOLIVAR PENINSULA

* STORM INFORMATION:
- NEAR FREEPORT TX
- 28.9N 95.3W
- STORM INTENSITY 35 MPH
- MOVEMENT NORTH OR 5 DEGREES AT 7 MPH

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

TROPICAL STORM IMELDA IS LOCATED NEAR FREEPORT AND IS MOVING INLAND
THIS AFTERNOON. THE MAIN THREAT REMAINS HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH
FLOODING.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* FLOODING RAIN:
PROTECT AGAINST DANGEROUS RAINFALL FLOODING HAVING POSSIBLE
SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ACROSS THE EASTERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS INCLUDE:
- RIVERS AND TRIBUTARIES MAY QUICKLY BECOME SWOLLEN WITH SWIFTER
CURRENTS AND OVERSPILL THEIR BANKS IN A FEW PLACES, ESPECIALLY
IN USUALLY VULNERABLE SPOTS. SMALL STREAMS, CREEKS, CANALS, AND
DITCHES OVERFLOW.
- SEVERAL PLACES MAY EXPERIENCE INUNDATION AT UNDERPASSES, LOW-LYING SPOTS,
AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. SOME STREETS AND PARKING LOTS TAKE ON WATER
AS STORM DRAINS AND RETENTION PONDS OVERFLOW. DRIVING CONDITIONS
COULD BECOME HAZARDOUS. SOME ROAD CLOSURES ARE POSSIBLE.

* TORNADOES:
LITTLE TO NO IMPACTS ARE ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME
ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS.

* WIND:
LIMITED IMPACTS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS COASTAL AREAS. POTENTIAL IMPACTS IN
THIS AREA INCLUDE:
- UNSECURED LIGHTWEIGHT OBJECTS BLOWN ABOUT.
