Hello folks!

My dear friend Steve (Srain from here as well as AmWx) told me all about you here. He suggested that I should sign up and see what it's all about. So, here I am.

I'm Eleanor, a meteorologist with NWS Boston/Taunton, Mass. I actually know a couple of you here, too (yes, it's me, Brooks!! ;) ). I'm also a member of the National Weather Association and serve on the Education Committee. I am very active in education and outreach here in southern New England.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello. We also had pea size hail last night as the next massive cold pool of air works out of the Great Lakes. Yes, another round of below normal temps (5-10 degrees below for highs over the next several days...sigh), plus diurnal clouds and showers. Also watching a possible low that will try to work up the eastern seaboard, but that's not until later next week...

Speaking of cold, it's been REALLY cold around here this past winter, nothing like I've seen in many years. And all the snow we had this winter...WOW! Our snow total here in Taunton (30 miles S of Boston) is over 107", and Boston has had 112.3", a record seasonal snowfall for the city (snowfall records date back to 1892!). Oh, and I can't forget a very historic observatory about 10 miles S of Boston, the Blue Hill Observatory in Milton. They celebrated their 130th anniversary on February 1st, in the middle of a very historic snow season at "the Hill." They have had over 150 (yep!) inches so far this season! And, and one point, they had 46" of snow on the ground, another record. It's been crazy to say the least, especially after working TWO blizzards this winter!

Enough about the cold and snow. I can't WAIT for the warm!!! And I'll be reading (lurking mostly at first), and posting once in a while. Oh, and my husband Dean is a hurricane freak (hey, connects to this thread!). Follows them all over the world (along with another friend here, HurricaneJosh!).

Take care, and I'll see you around the boards.

Greeting El and welcome to the KHOU Weather Community. We are glad you've decided to join our longtime 'weather family' and look forward to your 30 years of experiences with the National Weather Service to add to our discussions and educational outreach. Eleanor is involved in the new weather satellite GOES-R and will be doing a LOT of traveling attending meetings and Conferences preparing NOAA, the National Weather Service and the public for the next generation of Weather Satellites and advance technology that will be part of the payload of GOES-R scheduled for launch next year.

El is an amazing Meteorologist and a dear friend. She brings a wealth of knowledge and creditability to our growing list of Pro Mets.

Some facts that many may not know about the reach and ties that the KHOU Weather Forum has across the Country. Dr. Rick Knabb (National Hurricane Center Director) attended high school in Katy. Also, one of our young Meteorologists way back in the early days of the KHOU Board just started his new position as Meteorologist In Charge of NWS Key West. Congratulations to Matt Moreland on his new and exciting career advancement. We are so fortunate to have our team of folks that contributed, believed and follow our online Weather Community. Eleanor is just another in many exciting developments we have planned as we expand our outreach, educational, informative and most importantly creditable 'go to place' for ALL things weather related.
