Some Trivia
Mauna Kea is actually the tallest mountain from base to top. It is taller than Mt. Everest. Measured from sea floor to top, Mauna Kea is 33,100 feet, but it is mostly under water. Now, if you put Mauna Kea at the Mariana Trench, it would still be submerged.

Mt. Everest is tallest measured above sea level at 29,035 feet. However, Mt. McKinley is taller when measured from base elevation to top. Everest is 12,000 to 15,000 feet from base to peak, while McKinley is 18,000 feet from base to peak. Everest sits 12,000 to 17,000 feet above sea level in Tibet. McKinley sits 1,000 to 2,000 feet above sea level.
