Just went to lunch and I was reminded of the old wisdom of Harold Taft, and that was 'always remember to look out the window, or better yet, step outside, before issuing a forecast'.
Clouds are thickening-up outside and they already have that 'virga' look to them. It does not take much moisture in such cold air do make something happen.
January: Calmer Pattern To End The Month
Can't believe how unphased things have become on the models compared to just 12 hours ago...
As things stand now, it still looks like an advisory criteria event. But, man oh man.
But I still look at yesterday's 18z gfs and try to hold back the tears. Try...
Give me back mah snow, man

Clouds look to be breaking up/thinning out a bit here in the Galleria area with patches of blue.
Taft? wasnt he a president or something?jasons wrote:Just went to lunch and I was reminded of the old wisdom of Harold Taft, and that was 'always remember to look out the window, or better yet, step outside, before issuing a forecast'.

Jason,
I get that same feeling too, The sky looks very similar to when I was living in Nashville,TN and before we had snow storms the sky had that look to it...but this is Houston.
I suspect hgx will probably change these watches to an advisory. There is nothing showing a "warning" criteria event now...
This all started last night during the 0z NAM when it started to slow the upper low down. 'Twas a bad sign if you like snow

MSY (NOLA) issues Winter Storm Warning. HGX should be making a decision soon, too.

The WPC Winter Weather Probabilities Graphics are updating. The chance of freezing precip now extends to 18Z Wednesday across portions of SE Texas including Brazoria and Galveston Counties with spotty potential into Metro Houston.

I expect HGX to keep with the warning.
Wow,, so much different info on here
One says it's just an advisory event! Then some
Extends the freezing precip. So what's it going
To be anyone it's less than 24 hours away. Can someone
At least make a bold prediction, if have to cancel a job tomorrow it could
Cost.

I'm outside of Conroe and the temp has actually gone up from 55 degrees to 58 degrees as of now. I would think it would start to drop soon.

NWS New Orleans issues Winter Storm Warning. Also, TXDOT has began de-icing roadways in Metro Houston.

Wonder why it's taking HGX so long for whatever there going to issue..I'd hate to be them
I'm in southern Walker County, and it is definitely colder, and much cloudier, than about an hour ago.redneckweather wrote:Candy Cane wrote:im getting gas right now in The Woodlands and temps are diving now. getting cild here

You should never overlook the most obvious signs in life sometimes. Like it was posted before, take a step outside and look up when doing a forecast. In this case, it does seem to be taking a long time to issue a warning. That is likely do to the complexity of the forecast. However, other offices haven't done much either. We just now saw MSY issue a Winter Storm Warning for their area. I suspect LCH and HGX will follow suit when their AFD's are issued.Kingwood31 wrote:Wonder why it's taking HGX so long for whatever there going to issue..I'd hate to be them

Looks like the Macon, GA office just upgraded theirs to a warning. So I suspect all watches will either be turned into advisories or warnings shortly---including Houston.Candy Cane wrote:You should never overlook the most obvious signs in life sometimes.
