Latest mesoanalysis indicates shear continues to increase across the region this evening. Seeing a slow increase in showers between SAT and HOU which is usually an indication of the arrival of stronger large scale lift. Very strong jet dynamics are starting to spread into the state from the west with convection rapidly increasing around Del Rio.

At this point I am more concerned with the severe weather aspect. Plus models like the GFS doesn't look that reasonable with how close the surface low is here.

GFS heavy rain depicted West of here at 6 am (rush hour), but I'll shake the hand of that helicity.

yea 437 helicity would be pretty intense. Skew-T doesn't look as saturated as past runs unfortuantly....

I'm concerned about potentially severe weather, too. Any idea what we should expect tonight and tomorrow?

Dynamics look pretty good. Helicity predictions would support at least mid range tornadoes. The instability and CAPE all look good so there is at least a chance for some pretty severe storms. Look out west too. It is getting bad:

Thanks for the information. I'm wondering if it's going to be so bad that school will be cancelled. There are some parents who are keeping their kids home tomorrow in anticipation of dangerous weather and possible flooding.

Since the worst of the weather isn't forecast to move through the metro area until later in the morning, I do not anticipate any school closings tomorrow. Worst case scenario would be possible early dismissal if the weather is bad enough, although it would likely be safer for everyone to stay put if we do end up seeing significant flooding/severe weather.

The bad things about early dismissal are some parents not being able to get their kids and teachers needing to get their own children, but can't leave because their students haven't been picked up by their parents. Hopefully, if the weather is looking like it's going to be bad, districts will act early and cancel school.

Possible tornado 40 miles west of Kerville (at 10:50pm).

Hate going to bed with a tornado watch in effect and seeing the kind of storms that are forming southwest of Austin.

For those who have seen my posts' before, (which I need to edit my profile), I attend Texas State University here in San Marcos (halfway between San Antonio and Austin). Things sure are bad here.
No hail ...yet. But that cell on top of us sure does look bad.

TSU-San Marcos is going Division 1 Bowl Subdivision. Look for schools way over the heads in conference who'll lose most of their games to be schedulung San Marcos, McNeese State, North Texas, etc.

Gotta be 15 minutes at least to Hays gets a warning...

Yes, Texas State welcomes the WAC next year. We were 6-6 this season. Hoping for a better one next fall. ...hoping!

Andrew,

Nothing was significantly severe here. Didn't see any hail or strong winds with it as the Severe Thunderstorm warning mentioned. However, it's starting to lighten up a little bit. Sheets, I literally mean sheets of rain fell for a good 8-12 minutes here. Vivid lightning along with thunder loud enough to set some car alarms off that I can hear out my window.

As heavy as the rain was coming down, I don't put it past me roads are flooded. Though, for anyone who knows this area well. Texas State is up on a large hill that overlooks the city. So no actual flooding at the university besides maybe a low lying parking lot here. But I'm sure down the hill is bad. I have my blinds open and have seen several police officers drive by. I'm sure they are blocking off roads, ...would be my guess.
