Re: October 2017 - Early Week Cold Front/Warm WX Returns

Oh, it's through the Pearland/Friendswood area, based on wind direction and pressure, but we're still waiting for that dry air. It's currently 75 deg-F and 82% humidity.

Yes, we've had several VERY close lightening strikes around our house in northern Brazoria County. 2.5" of rain in just about the last half hour alone.

Re: July 2017 - Increasing Weekend Rain/Storm Chances

I was watching the radarange today, and biding my time so I could go mow the lawn before the rains hit. I watched as one storm heading our way kind of blew itself out, and the approaching storms looked like they had probably an hour to make it here. I got about 1/3 way through the back yard when it ...

Re: July 2017 - Isolated Rain/Storm Chances

And then there's that whole 30-day waiting period provision ;-) It's been a couple of decades, so I forgot that little 'feature'! IIRC, we got notification that we had to get the flood insurance in like late September or early October, in the peak of the season. By the time we got ready to make the...

Re: July 2017 - Isolated Rain/Storm Chances

Indeed. If you are 'thinking' about getting flood insurance, do so now. A little-known fact about flood insurance is that most insurance companies won't issue a policy if there's an active tropical cyclone in the GOM. That's even if it's just a tropical storm. We were 'surprised' by this when we fir...

Re: June 2017: TS Cindy/Tropical Storm Warning Issued

It does Rip76. Maybe the miniscule shift west from the models will be correct. Have a feeling the winds will be downgraded though with all that dry air filtering in as far as it is. We shall see... And it looks like there's still a fair amount of shear, at least on the southwestern half of the stor...

Re: June 2017: Hurricane Season Begins!!!

I think we got a tenth, or so, this morning. Better than nuttin'. We could use a little more rain, but you have to be careful about what you ask for around here. The oaks are weeping, so we're at least getting enough for the established plants.

Re: May 2017: Memorial Day/End Of May Outlook

First post here but long time reader. Have any of the meteorologist on here seen any signs or heard reports of a possible tornado in western/central Austin County yesterday evening when the storm went through? My parents live near Cat Spring and lost 20+ trees including 24"-30" oaks that ...

Re: May 2017: Western US Low/EPAC Tropical Troubles

Wow, it's hard to believe we've had that many more residents move-in since then. Can you imagine another Katrina-like traffic jam? It is a beautiful day. Enjoy it while it lasts - may be the last 50's we see until October. Or the line around the Home Depot/Lowes waiting for plywood before a storm m...

Re: April 2017 - Quiet Easter Weekend Outlook

I don't remember even seeing that in the zone forecast, but could have missed it. The models were showing a few pop-up showers, mostly 'splash and dash' showers, but not the training and constant raining all day long that we experienced. It happens, but was annoying that it happened, again on the co...

Re: April 2017 - Quiet Easter Weekend Outlook

Hopefully today's forecast doesn't get blown out of the water like yesterday's did. I'm not sure my property can survive another 10% chance of rain day! For now, though, it does look like that training 'stream' that dropped rain on Galveston Island and up the Gulf freeway all day yesterday, ...

Re: April 2017 - Weekend Heavy Rainfall/Storms Possible

Looks like it. That's not necessarily a bad thing after last week's deluge.

We left the race car at home today, choosing to NOT run in the local autocross event in Hitchcock. Looks like the event will be high and dry. :-/

As my wife said, though, if we had gone, we'd be wading home.

I watched the weather roll in yesterday on that site. It was amazing to watch the storm clouds boil up, and then blow out. It's about as close to 3-D as one can get without having 3-D.

Re: March-2017: Active Spring WX Pattern Ahead

Wow, the center of that low that's moving eastward, currently right along the state line between OK and the Texas panhandle looks impressive! Kind of reminds me of tropical stuff! Luckily, it's not that strong.
