Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Wx Likely

Well that's something. NWS site has Sugar Land Airport reporting light snow fog/mist.

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Wx Likely

Surprised advisories haven't gone up yet at least for the NW Territories. 35 IMBY in the western burbs. If we're already getting ice as far south as Magnolia, goodness this could be an incredible event. Definitely stay off the roads if you can and remember 4-wheel drive does not necessarily grant yo...

Re: February 2021

That's a decent cluster of storms out towards the SW. Solid amount of lift out there for sure. Would be all too good to get thundersleet/snow.

Re: February 2021

Quite the potent wave of activity rolling on through. Just caught a glimpse of the radar loop and man that cluster of storms that went through the loop had a decent amount of lightning. Just had a solid clap here as well in the western burbs. Was not expecting that! Lots of purple filling in on the ...

Re: February 2021

The temps we're seeing on the GFS/ICON/CMC are absolutely nuts. That's another level of cold that is usually reserved for our friends on the Caprock, and on up into the flyover states. Heck, even this type of freezer box and duration are something else for the Panhandle folks where the elevations are...

Re: February 2021

Last looked at the forum last night and we were on Page 55. We're up to 64 as of this post. I must've missed the overnight/early morning runs and excitement?

Re: February 2021

That's not how they work at all. I know a few of the forecasters there well. They'll always steer on the side of caution when it comes to hard freezes/mix precip down this way unless it's less than 3 days out with high confidence. Always best to be conservative when making those type of forecast do...

Re: February 2021

On cue, the Euro is now predicting a near repeat of Jan 10th. No comment on roads... Have to just grin and bear it for those of us south of 105 at this point. The coincidences are just too good. Pure speculation and possibly hyperbole, but I really wonder if that is where the heat island effect mor...

Re: February 2021

I’m tracking the front with Hi-Res visible satellite images. It shows-up nicely on Satellite. One other thing about the this morning’s loop is you can see the smokestacks near the ship channel. But there is a bright white one also right near Jersey Village (not sure what that is). You can also see ...

Re: February 2021

Probably because we’re closer to the warm Gulf waters. Keeps us insulated and the mountain range in eastern Oklahoma also blocks a lot of cold from coming our way. Someone else can probably elaborate on that. Idk much about it. Yes that is true, a lot of it has to do with geography, and also the Co...

Same here. Think we had a bunch of dust carried down on those gusty winds from the panhandle and West texas.

Re: January 2021

I keep seeing news about this polar vortex split causing major cold outbreaks, blah blah blah, but I dont see anything special, even for the N.E..... The PNA is forecast to go into neutral or slightly negative here pretty soon along with the EPO going negative. That should allow for some much colde...

Re: January 2021

Next Sunday looks very similar to this storm. We’ll see what happens. I think this one was a huge let down across the board. The GFS and Euro definitely scored big. One thing that surprised me is at my house it went from rain, to all sleet to all snow for 5 minutes and then back to rain and stayed ...

Re: January 2021

My goodness send it in with that NAM run (unless it gets better than that ;) But....as is my motto for wishing for winter pleasantries in all parts of Texas I’ve lived, I’ll wait to see to believe. Tis a finicky state we live in for this kind of fun.

Re: December 2020

It’s 45 degrees here. My temp in Richmond has gone up 8 degrees the past few hours. To bad this low can’t dig further south and east.. looks like it will go due north from where it currently is per the HRRR. Exactly. San Angelo is seeing a lot of snow. Kerrville may see a few flakes before it pulls...

Re: December 2020

About 2.5 inches and still coming down steadily. Had some nice rumbles of thunder as well and liking the cooler temps. Sounds pretty bad out CPVs way, so hoping well for those folks. Mods/Andrew/srain - any way* to hit the ban hammer on our resident troll? Just a nuisance and weak attempt at trollin...

Get outta here with that awesome sight.

I will say it was perfect with the cold temps, slightly frosted roofs, and slight breeze blowing through the few pine trees nearby. That's livin'.

Re: October 2020

Time to see how far south the front makes it tonight. The mesoscale models all indicate that it will make it at least to Harris County and possibly to the coast. Very tricky forecast for these next couple of days. Andrew - seems like we would need it to push as far south as possible to keep Zeta fr...

Re: October 2020

60s and sunny, now partly cloudy. No A/C. No watering. All is good, even if brown patch is back again, regardless of fungicide application. Fly in the ointment? Yes, another tropical system wandering into the Gulf. EFFFFF. Deja vu all over again all over again. Should reach hurricane strength and h...
