Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Same here as a lot of other places - 1/4" - 1/8" coating of ice on everything. Too bad it's not snow even up here on Montgomery County.

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Currently 30.4 with VERY VERY light intermittent flurries here at the house. As I told Jeff in my text I was reluctant to report it, but I confirmed the moisture on my windshield. If nothing else the lower levels are definitely starting to moisten. I still expect the snow, but maybe not as much as ...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Ceilings have lowered significantly within the past hour in NW Harris County. this is good? I just took the dog for a walk and noticed the same thing. This is definitely a good sign. The sky is starting to get that 'isentropic lift' appearance too it with the light reflecting off the lowerin...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

I saw a WV loop just now on KPRC and at the very end of the loop, in the middle of the dry slot, it started to show color again and expanding in a pool in WC Texas towards San Angelo. If that's the case, Central and into NC Texas may get a decent snowfall.... maybe it will move far enough south to c...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Reports of light snow in Laredo via twitter. Could this be our last hope - like a beacon in the night?

The damage is done to my garden, so for once, I really want it to snow!

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Re: Thundersnow I was in Birmingham, AL in The Superstorm of 1993. We had thundersnow all night with that. The lightning made it look like daylight reflecting off the snow and the thunder sound was very long and drawn-out. Then you would hear tree branches, etc., start creaking and falling. It was n...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

OKay I am so sorry, but after years of reading all the great weather info in the forum - one thing i have learned - When you get more than 2 people telling everyone else " Just be Patient, everything is still on Track" 9-10 times the event is a bust. I am sure some east of 59 will see som...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

All -- I know the soundings are dry, but I'm not surprised. It's apparent on the radar and WV loops that the moisture is just offshore and it won't take much to advect it inland this afternoon and into tonight as expected. I suspect once things start going, the column will moisten quickly. I still t...

Re: February Weather. Arctic Blast/Snow/Then More Arctic Co

clute28 wrote:Could that warm pocket of air b there one model run and b gone the next?
Yes, but usually when that shows-up, it means the models are onto something. A layer of warm air will likely get entrained causing a mess along the coast. Just my $.02.

Re: February Weather. Arctic Blast/Snow/Then More Arctic Co

Y'all - the talk of possible freezing rain or sleet is because of a warm layer aloft depicted on the future model soundings. A few things to remember: 1) As WxMan as commented - there is a lot of uncertainly on forecast model soundings. It could be all snow, across the board. 2) Surface temps and es...

It seems these things always start and end earlier than the models predict.

Re: February Weather. Arctic Blast/Snow/Then More Arctic Co

Believe it or not, we are getting reports of snow about 25 to 30 miles west of New Orleans. RUC sounding would not support snow there: Actual sounding from Slidell indicates very little moisture aloft and temps above freezing, too: However, radar is showing a narrow band of precip just west of New ...

Geez! My forecast low is 18 Degrees with wind! Bye Bye Majesty palms and a good chunk of my garden

I was hoping my first guess last week would actually be wrong....

Re: February Weather. Severe Threat/Arctic Blast/Then Snow?

Everything is wrapped and ready to go here. We dipped to about 32-33F for a brief bit but we've been at 35-36 for a few hours now.

I think this will be the final stake for a lot of my plants. I say bring on the snow and I'll plant a more cold-hardy garden!

Re: January Weather Discussion: Slight Chance Severe Storms

My back deck wasn't even wet when I got up early this morning. It is just now starting to sprinkle. Definitely a busted forecast with just light to moderate rain moving in from the west. I thought the same thing too! My driveway just had a few sprinkles. Wow - it's also a reminder that if they bust...

Re: February Weather. First week Interest?

Let's follow the NWS forecast for next week. Currently, going for low to mid 50s in the cold air. I suspect those values may be 15-20 degrees too warm, but don't expect them to modify the forecast much until they're more certain that the GFS is incorrect with its relatively mild temperature forecas...
