Re: January Weather Discussion: Light Freeze Fri/Sat Jan 21

Very nice analysis. Good explanation for those less versed in the patterns. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that has thought we were in a "step down" process. It just happened a lot earlier last winter. As stated it remains to be seen if the different "parts" come together ...

Re: January Weather Discussion. Severe Threat/Cold Blast Com

Paul, at this point I tend to agree with you. This coastal low is going to have to get going soon and it is going to have to track inland more than currently expected if it is to do as I posted it could do. I will be interested to watch the positioning of the ULL and the surface low as this evolves....

Re: January Weather Discussion. Severe Threat/Cold Blast Com

Check out the convective initiation coming into SW TX. I presume that's our low? http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/southplains_loop.php That is the ULL. The surface low has yet to form from what I see, based on radar only. If I am incorrect feel free to correct me, but that is what I see based on rada...

Re: wxdata 1951-2010

It's hard for me to believe he has passed. I remember him very well as a wonderful moderator of this weather board. I also remember a few of his forecasts. He and Dr. Frank were two of my favorite meteorologists down here in Houston. This has been a rough day, and now I'm just in shock. My condolen...

Re: wxdata 1951-2010

Most of my memories of Dan are from when he was on the air regularly. When Dr. Frank came on board I wondered where he went only to find out he was doing the graphics support for him. I was quite excited when he joined us as "Stormcloud" at STORM2K. He was active with us until he started t...

Re: Tornado Sirens for The City of Houston

From 1977-80 I went to school at the old HSPVA downtown. Every, or many Fridays at noon they would blow the civil defense siren. I wonder if they still do that or if it still exists? I believe those were dismantled sometime in the mid 80's. I could be incorrect on the time, but they are definitely ...

Re: March First Storm- In Like A Lion?

We had a freeze in March 4 or 6 years back, IIRC. The last time March had a freeze was in 2002. It was also the last time Houston saw below 25 degrees Fahrenheit temperature. The latest freeze on record was April 13, 1940 when we had a record low of 32. Of course that wasn't at KIAH. Found this in ...
