Re: December 1989 Freeze

The last decade has been colder overall than the 2000s and 1990s. You have to go back to the 1980s to find a colder decade. And absolutist predictions have happened since the 1950s. In the 70s, a new ice age was coming. In the late 90s the polar ice caps would be long gone by 2015. Turns out neithe...

Re: December 1989 Freeze

No, a freeze of that extent may NOT happen again in your life. Already in the past 30 years, temps citywide have largely been struggling to dip below 20F. And things will only get milder overall as climate change continues. I'm not saying that there won't be cold snaps in the future, but I just can...

The associated low pressure looks focused on the Great Lakes. The impact may not be too heavy, at least for now.

That's a pretty light freeze.

What's interesting is that it was warmer in Maine this morning than places like Mobile and Panhandle Florida.

Re: November 2020

^^^On the last NWS discussion I read, it was said that the dynamics of the coming storm might be too far north for the Houston area to get the true impact. Nevertheless, we'll see what comes up.

Re: November 2020

Wanting cold, and forecasting it are two very different things. I go off things like 1+2, SOI, GOA, PDO what a typical Niña Winter looks like given the current background state.... [snip] No problems man, it's all understood. I'm actually looking forward to some cold myself: 60s for highs and 40s f...

Re: December 2020

Looking like a pattern change is coming as November ends and December begins. PNA Ridge pops up to our NW and Southern stream storms may bring damp and chilly weather to the Lone Star State. Stay tuned... Seeing the same. The days after Thanksgiving leading up to the 7th show front after front and ...

you know things are extremely dull when there aren't any posts in here for 4 days....in mid November lol
Hot and humid with zero rain for the next week. Of course nobody is posting.
Except me! I'm liking this hot weather, we need this to continue all winter long.

Re: November 2020

It's true that previous La Nina's have brought wintry events. But by and large, they literally have to thread the needle - upper level support largely is north away from SE Texas during such winters. Even the subtropical jet would barely have an effect. So it's going to be pure wall-to-wall heat and...

The closest would January 1886, February 1895, and February 1899.

I would not be surprised if we freezes like this in the future.
What makes you think that we will when the entire planet is heating up?
