Re: May Weather Discussion

Could be an interesting afternoon as both the CRP and LCH soundings from this morning indicate a much weaker cap over the region with convective temps in the lower to mid 80s. MCS over central Texas is showing some signs of slowly moving/developing off to the ESE with showers starting to develop acr...

Re: April Weather Discussion. 'Feels Like' 90's Late Week?

What rotation there was on the KGRK and HGX radar's looks to be almost gone...based on what the HGX spotter said, the storms is becoming a bit too elevated to be a real tornado producer.

Re: April Weather Discussion. 'Feels Like' 90's Late Week?

Looks like the met at the warning desk thinks the storm could turn a bit more to the right (southeast) based on the latest severe thunderstorm warning polygon configuration.

Re: April Weather Discussion. 'Feels Like' 90's Late Week?

KGRK radar showing what looks to be a developing hook echo sough of Caldwell with an estimate of 2.21'' hail, close to what KHGX was suggesting....as I type this the storm goes tornado warned, lol. Radar does show some rotation possibly trying to tighten up to the south of Caldwell at this time.

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Late Week!

Update mesoanalysis from the RUC does show that moisture convergence is slowly increasing along the dryline/trough so I think we might see development start to occur as we get closer towards 4pm. Lots of instability out there for storms to tap into once they go up.

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Late Week!

Like as been alluded to above, not much convergence being seen currently along the dry line/trough across central Texas with high res visible sat not showing a lot of towering cu either. With the sky becoming partly cloudy across the region and temps warming into the mid to even upper 80s, the lates...

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Late Week!

Looking at the latest RUC mesoanalysis, CAPE values are already running in the 1000-2000J/kg range along with 0-1km SRH in the 200-350 range; however the area remains strongly capped. Up north across northeast Texas where capping is weaker, thunderstorms have started to develop with the SPC liking g...

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Late Week!

Yep, this looks like a pretty typical late April severe outbreak with our friend the cap keeping the storms around the metro area and places south in check; however, our northern counties could take a beating from two rounds of severe weather. Don't have much time to really look at the models this m...

Re: April Weather Discussion. MS 150 Forecast

The storm moving out of northeastern Ft. Bend into Western Harris county is a very proficient rain and lightning maker. Have over 1 inch in the rain bucket and its only been raining for about 20min. Also, there are a ton of cloud to ground lightning strikes with the storm as well so be careful if yo...

Re: April Weather Discussion. Severe Weather Chances To Incr

I am not being wishful or wishcasting, I just think that we could go from a beautiful, mostly sunny day to all of a sudden, where did this Bow Echo thunderstorm or Supercell Thunderstorm come from. We have indeed had surprise local severe events in the past however, tomorrow does not look like that...

Re: Easter Weekend Weather

Dan and I were just discussing how there is better moisture the futher W one goes which matches the thouhts of the NWS of and E of I-35 corridor senario. Beginning to see some cumulus clouds structures to my N and W. Yeah, I was just looking over some surface charts and noticed the same thing and i...

Re: March 2010- In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion?

What precisely/specifically is dBz? dbz is the amount of transmitted energy returned back to the radar with the values increasing along with the amount of reflectivity energy. For example, a thunderstorm containing hail will give much larger dbz (aka reflectivity) values than just a light shower be...

Re: March 2010- In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion?

Latest visible sat really shows the explosive thunderstorm development over the past hour to the west of Mineral Wells along with additional cu development back building to the south. Morning low clouds have already burned off across our northern counties which will quickly allow temps to rise towar...

Re: March 2010- In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion?

18z models are in and it is interesting to note that they show less moisture across the region Tuesday and more on Wednesday with a slightly better wind field and instability coming into play. SPC has out-looked the possibility of a severe threat Wednesday as seen in the extended discussion below. ....

Re: March 2010- In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion?

Even though we will see the most widespread precip Monday, Tuesday afternoon and evening bears watching for the potential for some isolated strong storms. The atmosphere will remain rather moist and should be much more unstable as we fall into the right exit region of a very strong jet stream. Model...

Re: March 2010- In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion?

Yeah, the system forecast by the models to be moving into the region by the middle of next week could possibly pack quite a punch for someone in the state. The upper level dynamics look impressive with a strong s/w cutting down into central Texas along with at least part (northern) of our region fal...
