Re: February: Slight Risk Severe Storms 2/3-4. Heavy Rainfal
Circulation looks to be weakening some as it has broadened out, still very heavy rain, hail and strong winds along with additional tornadoes possible in the College Station area over the next hour. KCLL just reported 1.24'' of rain in the last 50min!

Re: February: Slight Risk Severe Storms 2/3-4. Heavy Rainfal
Getting reports of a possible tornado on the ground near Snook. It looks to be located 5 miles southwest of KCLL moving northeast around 10-15mph. If it remains on the ground it will likely come very close to the airport and Texas A&M. Hail core currently approaching the west and southwest sides...

Re: February: Slight Risk Severe Storms 2/3-4. Heavy Rainfal
Most impressive velocity signature of the day with some strong rotation not very far above the ground. It looks like it might have just missed Snook to the northwest. I would bet that there is at least a funnel cloud with this storm.

Re: February: Showers/Storms Possible Through Early Next Wee
No real changes to my previous thinking after examining the latest model data. The atmosphere will become moderately unstable across southeast Texas during the day on Friday; however all of the best lift will be off to the northwest of the region which is where the greatest risk for severe weather w...

Re: February: Showers/Storms Possible Through Early Next Wee
Any further info on the severe wx dynamics for Friday? My main attention this morning has been with assessing the thunderstorm potential for this afternoon as the 12z progs and high resolution models have been suggesting some decent instability around the region. Currently watching strong thunderst...

Re: January: Tornado Watch/ Slight Risk/ 1/25 With Heavy Ra
As several of you have mentioned, the southern portion of the line is really starting to get its act together with the cell just southeast of Rock Island in central Colorado county starting to show signs of rotation. Also the storm in Waller county that srain mentioned also showing signs of rotation...

Re: January: Slight Risk Severe Storms 1/24-25 / With Heavy
Thanks for the information. I'm wondering if it's going to be so bad that school will be cancelled. There are some parents who are keeping their kids home tomorrow in anticipation of dangerous weather and possible flooding. Since the worst of the weather isn't forecast to move through the metro are...

Re: January: Slight Risk Severe Storms 1/24-25 / With Heavy
Latest mesoanalysis indicates shear continues to increase across the region this evening. Seeing a slow increase in showers between SAT and HOU which is usually an indication of the arrival of stronger large scale lift. Very strong jet dynamics are starting to spread into the state from the west wit...

Re: January: Slight Risk Central TX 1/24-25 /Storms & Heavy
No big changes in thinking this morning after looking over the 12z model progs. Excessive rainfall/flooding continue to look like the greatest threats with isolated tornadoes and damaging wind gusts coming in second. Model soundings continue to indicate plenty of shear and enough instability for mid...

Re: January: Storm Threat 1/24-26/Severe Wx/Heavy Rain Possi
You don't see saturation through all levels so precise that often like what the gfs Skew-T is showing. Very impressive. I think this next ULL is going to put the last one to shame. With a sounding like that, we are going to see some very significant rainfall rates even in the more moderate showers....

Re: January: Storm Threat 1/24-26/Severe Wx/Heavy Rain Possi
The 12Z GFS has trended toward the over night Euro/Canadian/UKMet solution suggesting a deepening closed core U/L near the Big Bend Region. Worrisome to see the GFS continue to advertise a posibble meso and if the slower solution is correct, our severe weather chances would be later in the daytime ...

Re: January:Tracking A Storm Threat 1/23-25/Severe Wx Possib
As srain has alluded to, models continue to struggle with next week's pattern as the euro after consistently being the most progressive with the trough has now trended slightly slower than the GFS. After some discussion around the office, I am still inclined to lean toward a more progressive scenari...

Re: Texas: January Freeze With Marathons Forecast 1-14/15
The euro ensembles beyond 324hr keep the ridge off the CA coast maybe flattening it a tad bit but with continued toughing across western Canada and a very strong polar vortex (helping maintain a relatively zonal flow pattern across the US), it will be extremely hard to get any type of arctic air too...

Re: December: Heavy Rains Overnight/Rain Returns Saturday

The latest IR satellite imagery shows rapidly cooling cloud tops (cooler than -60 C) associated with increasing elevated convection across central sections of southeast ...
