Re: AUGUST 2018 - Hot &Dry/Rain Returns This Weekend

Tomorrow will be day 44 of 100 degree temps in Austin. The 20th century average was 12. For the last decade it's been around 30+.

Any rain in the long range forecast??

Re: AUGUST 2018 - Weak Cool Front/Rain Chances Tuesday

Sorry to hear about Ed's passing. I grew up watching his weather reports. Here's a link to ABC's look back on him.

Re: AUGUST 2018 - Pattern Change/Wetter & Cooler WX Likely

I spent every summer near this location camping from the mid 60's to the early 70's. What an amazing site to see. Most of the sharp cliffs along the "normal" flow of the Nueces River are 200 to 300 feet! NWS Austin/San Antonio‏Verified account @NWSSanAntonio · 1h1 hour ago Here's a comp...

Re: July 2018: Weekend/Early Next Week Rain Chances

I can't stand these Texas summers and droughts any more. I'm done. Throwing in the towel. I'm moving to the Great State of Florida as soon as possible....which in reality will be about 3 years from now. But I have a plan and a goal :-) As Texas summers and droughts go, this summer has not been too ...

Re: July 2018 4th Of July Outlook/Wet Week Ahead

The Big Blob over Houston seems to be moving a little south of west as of 11:30am Wed. What are expected movements over the next 24-48 hours? On this path, San Antonio looks to be in bull's eye with Austin getting peripheral rains.

Re: JUNE 2018 will the rains come?

I am starting to watch for the possibility of heavy rain this weekend into early next week, as it is starting to seem like we could see heavy rain regardless of rather the system develops or not. Both The EURO and GFS show widespread heavy rainfall, just something to watch for now... I'm wondering ...

Re: FEBRUARY 2018 - Very Progressive Pattern/Roller Coaster

In geographic terms, I drove from Austin to Houston and back to Austin yesterday (Tuesday) between 10am and 7pm. It meteorological terms, I drove from 46 degrees with light showers then through fog & moderate showers around halfway, and then finally arrived at party cloudy and 74 degrees. Then t...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Tracking Arctic Cold/Hard Freeze/Wind Chi

What's long range for January showing? Looking back at last two years we had one strong cold snap (both times around Jan 7th & 8th), then it warmed up quite a bit later in January.

These videos are stunning. Imagine if Irma hadn't scraped the coast Cuba (weakening it), and ended up a little more east with a Miami landfall?

Re: August 2017: Harvey/Catastrophic Flood/Recovery

55" here in Dickinson for the event. I live off Deats road and it was absolutely horrible. The road had 6 feet of water in spots. Unfortunately 8" of water made it into my house, however houses just two streets over on lower elevations had over 5 feet! The sight and sound of bay boats, je...

Cool front next week??? Hoping we can start talking about something else besides Harvey soon!

At least it appears no strong heat returning, which is good news for everyone in SE Texas as they try to recover.

We will leave this Topic here as a Historical Documentation of Harvey before, during and after this event. Personally, thanks to each a...

RECON has been flying around the inner core of Harvey for the last 10-12 minutes sampling with that 16 mile wide eye. Lowest pressure extrapolated down to 981.5mb. Expect to see a picture via the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron on Twitter later. For reference: The 4AM advisory had 995 mb and 4...

What are thoughts on possible tornadic activity with Harvey?

Historically, when tropical storms run into stalled fronts, does this increase those chances?

Re: May 2017: Memorial Day/End Of May Outlook

Between 4-4:45pm, the area about 50 miles south of Junction, TX is getting copious amounts of rain with stationary storms. Looks like similar system of storms are forming along a line from just north of Uvalde to Waco. Could be a rough afternoon/evening Hill Country area if these storms don't move.

Interesting note from Phil Klotzbach, via Jeff Masters Wunderblog, "Never before has the Atlantic recorded two storms of at least Category 4 strength in October." For records going back to 1851.

Re: Tracking the Tropics: Hurricane Matthew

Hope people on east coast of FL are preparing like they will get hit with a major cane because it's way too close to call at this point. Even if no direct hit, it's going to be rough.
