Re: December 2017: Christmas Cold / Ice Across Texas?

I think Wxman57 put it the best by saying the GFS is like pulling the handle on a slot machine. Last evening, the GFS has Louisiana getting in on the winter weather and in less than 24 hours, we now look to stay warm again. It's impossible to tell with these major swings in the runs.

Anybody see the temperature anomalies from the 12z GFS today by the end of the run? A 1056 mb high dropping into central Montana with departures running 25+ degrees below normal. Seems to be lots of hints in the long range in each model run of a big shift to drastically colder temps nation wide. De...

Re: Christmas Week and the "interesting" pattern evolving

I follow this forum (especially in winter) because what ya'll get there, we get the next day here in SE Louisiana. Case in point is last week's snow. Does the GFS still have precip for the Gulf Coast for the Christmas front?

Yesterday, srain mentioned something about long term ensembles indicating another cold blast coming in the 12 day range, maybe? Any updates on that? Thanks very much.

Re: December 2017: Pattern Change/Much Colder Weather Possib

As all of us who live along the Gulf Coast know, the timing is EVERYTHING with these arctic systems. Usually, the moisture is gone once the cold air arrives. But, every once in a while, either a ULL or gulf surface low develops that throws moisture up over the cold air giving us some winter fun. Wil...
